Pacheco and Wade lawyer up in ongoing immigration investigation

Godwin Hulse

As Hulse confirmed, all three passport officers who were on suspension since September have been reinstated by the Services Commission. That is…despite specific recommendations by Director of Immigration Maria Marin to terminate them. But while those officers were dragged through the mud of public scrutiny and tribunal, two officers in the Nationality Section are not going down so easily. Nationality Section Head Gordon Wade and Counter Supervisor were both specifically named in an internal report on the Won Hong Kim passport scandal, and asked to respond to claims of irregularities. They didn’t waste time in lawyering up, and since then the Immigration Department has backed up somewhat. Minister of Immigration Godwin Hulse maintains that securing an attorney was premature, since there had been no charges laid again Pacheco and Wade. He did go so far as to say, however, that the move could perhaps be perceived as self-indictment.

Godwin Hulse, Minister of Immigration

“There is a communication going back and forth between SOLGEN that represents the government and their attorney to determine whether in fact the attorney’s response on their behalf is an adequate response. Because like I said at this point and them from where I sit there has been no accusation made. And the director does has the right to ask anybody within their staff any question about performance and or lack thereof. And that is all that she has done at this stage. Hasn’t gone beyond that and I find it a little difficult, where if we are going to suggest that the director or the C.E.O. doesn’t have the right in the government structure to ask any staff regarding their performance and then they feel that they must go to an attorney, then we are in a way breaking down the system. I appreciate that everybody has the right to go to an attorney, I appreciate that everybody has the right to natural justice but Mr. Rudon that is after you have been accused. If you are working within my department its part of the administration that you are asked about your performance, it is part of the administration that you are assessed on your performance. And if you refuse to respond and say that I will only respond through my attorney, I mean is this self indictment? I would have thought initially that that response would have come from them and then if they were now before the commission and accused then they woild go for an attorney. I am still baffled at that response but we are waiting to see where it goes thereafter.”

Neither Gordon Wade nor Ady Pacheco have been suspended, and both are still at the nationality section

Hulse, you and your government will implode soon. I wish these guys luck for fair justice and hopefully bring the true treasonous persons to trial and achieve justice for selling out Belize’s patrimony.

  4. Teddy Steinway says:

They don’t trust you Mr. Hulse. Why should they?

  5. CEO says:

How the hell securing an attorney is sign of guilt of self-indictment as Hulse stated? This man is stupid or what? They have not even investigated the person (Penner) who is really responsible for this criminal actions at the passport office and all focus is on others; the underlings. If I was in there shoe the hand writing is on the wall and you do not need an interpreter to know that the GOB is trying to do: they are the ones the GOB is pushing the blame to. I would secure an attorney also.

I am not saying they may not know of the wrong doing but if they stood up they would have no job by now, and we the people would have never found out about Penners shinanigans at the passport office.

Penner is completely “left out” now I wonder if he still feels left out?
