GSU Boss Says Officers Aren’t Above the Law

Supt. Linden Flowers

There are thirty officers in the Unit and Superintendent Flowers says that those who step out of bounds will be penalized; criminal elements will be dealt with and that the unit will continue to arrest criminal activity perpetuated by gangs around the country.

Supt. Linden Flowers, Head, Gang Suppression Unit

“Where a police officer is accused of being aggressive or using force that is above the necessary limit, there will be consequences for that officer. We will review those matters, have reviewed them and I am certain that the records will show that the persons on the GSU, I think it cost the taxpayers a handsome figure. That is not the way I intend to go. The persons who are guilty or suspected to will be investigated, we will build a case against them so that when the time comes for the Gang Suppression Unit to act, we are in the position to produce tangibles that we can take before the court and can put it on Channel Five or other media to let the community see what I found on those person’s premises, what I found in their position.”

“So you are saying that the approach by of course the gang suppression unit is justifiable, in most of the instances?”

Supt. Linden Flowers

“Many of the instances, it was a cry to get the population distracted from. The records have shown and footage has shown quite a number of seizures, quite a number of arrests, and a number of persons, maybe five and six cases—and I would like to minimize the amount—of injury that has been placed on people. The gang suppression unit is not only to deal with gang and suppression. Gang culture…has a lot of things is involved in gangs: drugs, organized crimes, transshipment of firearms, transshipment of ammunition, infiltration of our schools and our neighborhoods. The citizenry needs to recognize that the gang suppression unit is not the enemy. The enemy of our community, the enemy of our estate is the persons who want to make us be looking at the gang suppression unit. The gang suppression unit is not out there shooting and shooting persons in the streets, it is those persons who have made it their business to be using and firing upon innocent citizens.”

Flowers reiterated that for the success of the unit, the community and the GSU must work together to combat crime.
