20,000 strong women’s empowerment rally

Ann-Marie Williams

Earlier we told you that the church is not endorsing the twenty thousand strong women’s rally organized by the National Women’s Commission. All indications are that the rally will proceed on Thursday and that women will be bused in from all over the country. Earlier today, Executive Director of the Women’s Commission, Ann-Marie Williams, came to News Five’s studios today to invite women out for the event. Williams was optimistic about participation at the event.

Ann-Marie Williams, Executive Director, Women’s Commission

“The rally is an opportunity for women to come together and to realize that when we come together in unity we are stronger than when we are on our own. And so it is a chance to create more awareness about women’s participation and in area where that awareness has been created, it is to strengthen the participation level of women in all aspects of Belize’s development. We have focal points in all of the districts that are actually organizing this event. So we have in Corozal, from all the way in Orange Walk down to PG and people in the districts were asked to register because of transportation and their food—you have to know how many buses to put in a specific area and what special way to know than by asking people to register.  When we get to the stadium, it’s time for a rally; we’ll be having dynamic speakers, the keynote speaker happens to be the Special Envoy for Women and Children, Misses Kim Simplis Barrow. We’ll be having a young women speaker, an outstanding teacher who will be speaking and all that will be spiced by music coming from our female artists in Belize. So it is a wonderful opportunity just to be in a spirit of woman hood to be around people who we have things in common with and who we have things that are not so common with because although we are women, theirs is not so much of a homogeneity among women because we are different people, but we around issues of common concern.  I feel we will get more than twenty-thousand. But hey, we go big or go home. It doesn’t really matter. If we get five thousand people; that is more than we’ve ever had coming together. And so it is a chance to build on what the women’s movement’s done so far and to continue. We will be hearing also too at the rally the way forward.”

According to Williams, the event is the kickoff of the yearly activities that will heighten the awareness of women’s participation which will include a traveling exhibition and several other activities.

I am a 36 year old Christian woman. I refused to be empowered or strengthen by women who do not believe in God. Who themselves have broken and dysfunctional families. This is a convoy of blind leading the blind. While they are in their spiffy offices championing their own name…the real women of this country remain on their knees true to their faith despite the hardships.

This is just another misappropriation of hard earned Belizean tax Dollars by Barrow and affiliates. It would make more sense to bring the Belizean people together for a march against corruption.

  3. Lord LOL says:

This Women’s’ commission love to use politics and promotes anti societal policies most of which are dictated by so called “Human rights group” from abroad.
Have they actually help improve standard of living for women in Belize? never mind that, have they actually improve the standard of living of all Belizeans?

As far as I am concern, you cannot improve society of you only target one sex(Female) and leave out the other sex(Male)

Strong women do not earn their living on their backs. Unfortunately, this is the case with a lot of women in Belize. This rally should have taken a different route by starting with young women in the high schools and at U.B who are selling themselves for material goods. It is despicable how women have cheapened themselves in Belize just for a few dollars and meaningless items. I am certainly not a religious person but I must say that Belizean women need moral teachings more than anything else that this rally can offer. You should start building women by going into the schools and in their communities where temptations and predators are roaming the streets and teach them how to conduct themselves within their environment. It makes no sense to bus them to a rally and then send them back to their reality of struggle and hardships.

I’m glad that there are still people with their eyes open like the two bloggers mentioned. It’s an agenda that will try to misdirect the woman but not the real women but only those that are the same blind like the leader who tried to convince us that LGBT is o.k as she portrayed on her last agenda.

ITS AMAZING HOW THIS COUNTRY LIVES IN THE DARK AGES OF TIME WHEN WE ARE IN 2014 WITH BELIEVES THAT HURT OTHER PEOPLE AND WANT TO BE IMPOSED ON OTHERS.. YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO BELIEVE WHATEVER YOU WANT AS LONG AS IT DOES NOT HURT THE RIGHT OF OTHERS. ITS THE FUNDAMENTAL COMMON SENSE OF HUMANITY AND LET YOUR GODS BE THE JUDGE AFTER IF THAT IS WHAT YOU BELIEVE. BUT DO NOT IMPOSE YOUR BELIEF TO OTHERS AND FRAMEWORK THEIR LIVES BASED ON YOUR BELIEFS. THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF HUMAN HURT AND KILLINGS BECAUSE OF THIS MENTALITY AND THROUGH HISTORY THE CHURC HAS HURT AND KILED INOCENT PEOPLE ONE WOULD THINK THEY WOULD HAVE EVOLVED AND THEN THEY ASK WHY THE CHURCHES ARE EMPTY.

The funny thing is that by reading almost all the comments here its clear that most Belizeans are terribly uneducated. Average belizean thinks that everyone who came out today does not belive in God. How dumb is that? Lord, didn’t the men just have their thousand march? I didn’t see you rush to comment when that happened but because its now women suddenly we are breaking down the family unit. Haevenly decided to dengrate all women as cheap whores. Every one of you is ridiculous and uneducated. Belizean pride doesn’t even know what a blogger is—by the way its very different than someone who writes a comment. Go back to school and get an education and learn to think for yourselves.

A real Belizean is one who stand for what is morally right is acceptable in the eyes of God and Man. Every person is created in the image and likeness of God, therefore, we reflect the divine image of our creator and who has the obligation to preserve that dignity, is it not me and you? What we sow now we shall reap later, if we sow corruption, we shall reap corruption. On the other hand if we sow What is Good and morally acceptable, we are scuring the future of our society and of our young Belizean people.
