Mexican National, Zurisday Villasenor Mendez, a no show in court today

Zurisaday Villasenor Mendez

There is an update to report tonight about Mexican national, Zurisaday Villasenor Mendez, who was granted a seventy-five thousand dollar bail by the Supreme Court less than two weeks ago. The Mexican national was to report to court today, but this may come as no surprise….Villasenor Mendez did not show up in Belize City Magistrate Court.  Since he didn’t turn up for the scheduled hearing, the court is forfeiting the cash bail.  Magistrate Nardia Morgan, the presiding magistrate for the trial for firearm, drugs and ammunition charges, has ordered a warrant for his arrest. Neither were his two attorneys present in court which the D.P.P., Cheryl-Lynn Vidal noted was a disrespect to the court. Vidal also said that she had been told by one of his attorneys Arthur Saldivar that Villasenor Mendez would have been present, but when he did not turn up, she called Saldivar again and was told that the accused was in Corozal. Magistrate Morgan also noted that since there was no indication from the attorneys that the Villasenor Mendez would not turn up, they must assume that he had breached bail conditions. He was granted bail on February seventh by Justice Troadio Gonzalez on the condition that he must report to court every Monday, but he failed to do so earlier this week. Villasenor Mendez still has a case pending before the Supreme Court for alleged constitutional abuse since he had been on remand for sixteen months. On October 2012, at the Las Vegas Hotel at the Corozal Free Zone, the Mexican national was arrested on charges of firearm, ammunitions and drugs. On the occasions that he was brought before the courts, the police would stage huge operations outside the court, but now the Mexican national has slipped through the net with relative ease.

  8. Timber says:

Is this a surprise? LOL. Yes, check the bank account of some of the Magistrates, police officers and relatives. We need checks and balances and certain academic qualifications for a lot of these people in government. That doesn’t stop them from being crooks though. They also need to declare their financial status. He is loooonnggggg gone. Look who is his attorney! Uncle Sam is looking and I’m not telling you this from assumptions, I’m talking from having close contacts. I feel pity and at times none for the people of Belize because we have developed, accepted and lived in this type of culture that we’ve taken it for the norm. I watch the deplorable condition of the hospital, where , the CEO, relative and friend of the minister, has absolutely no clue nor idea of modern day medicine and techniques. They welcome free consultations and donations but shun the notion of paying a pittance for improvement to services, facilities, and a mandate to operate the hospital. One nurse’s aide works at night at times. Staff is disillusioned, despondent and very undertrained. Drugs coming from India and other places that don’t meet standards and are two years or more expired; needless to say, don’t meet FDA basic standards. However, the suggestion of changing vendors is not considered because the hustle is for a couple of people with connections. The surgery rooms are so substandard and the propensity for infection is high. Let’s talk about the Social System where there’s a miniscule amount of untrained social workers who don’t have a clue of family values and are also discouraged and disillusioned. The tip of this iceberg is Family Court. Whew!!!! Ms. Nicholas is finally gone. She tried to hang on even after her time to leave and was able to weasel her way to a two year contract after she went to BMP and stabbed some of her own co-workers behind their backs to keep a job. If Carter only knew what she did to her. Then, on top of that, she ( Nicholas) got close to who was supposed to be anointed head of Family Court about three or four years ago, and did so the old fashion way. It was a male, but she got played. Yes, I know your dirt, Margaret. Family Court is a mess. What happened to Mrs. Willoughby? They let her go , mainly political reasons more-so than retirement age. What happened to Mr. Ferguson? Ms. Lino, I think that was her name, she died a few years ago, was also good. I never used to even read Belize news because it was so depressing but I will continue to do so now and blog accordingly. The brains of this country have left. Nobody wants to deal with that mess. I had a graduating class of 32 and I think a total of over 130, can’t remember the exact number. We keep up with each other and I can safely say that at least 85% of us became engineers, physicists, IT specialists, doctors, dentists, chemists, professors. You know where 95% of us are living? Need I say more? Keep your eyes on North Front Street. You will find out soon that Alibaba and his 40 is not as bad.

  9. Phillipa says:

Magistrate got pay off you know how long this case the go on they change about two magistrate already cause lawyer say they was on fair to his client I guess because they never accept their payoff ONLY IN BELIZE this dude done left the country

  10. the voice says:

What a joke!!! The G.S.U. Got slap on the face one more time. Taking care of him for sooooo long costing us tax payers$$$· That means the corruption is in Belize city. Or way up high. Investigate Mr. Vidal show them that you are better than that let us belive in you one more time. Say no to the cartels.

  11. Elgin Martine says:

Most of these Majistrates in Belize seems to lock logical reasoning. This man being a Mexican National alone makes him a flight risk as a result why was he afforded bail.

  12. Elgin Martinez says:

Most of these Majistrates in Belize seems to lack “Logical Reasoning”Being a Mexican National alone makes this man a flight risk.

  13. Louisville, Ky. says:

Did the Judge who granted bail TRUELY believe this man was going to show up for trial? Man, with cases like this, I don’t know if I should laugh or if I should cry as our judiciary continues to fail us miserably.
As to Arthur Saldivar…..I’ll just shake my head and have nothing to say.

  14. CEO says:

Why on God’s green earth we would grant bail for a foreign national of a neighboring country?

Did anyone really believe he would return for trial? Sorry to say but if there is such a person they are either naïve, stupid or crooked.

  15. Hatari says:

And this was one of the K-9 Units first big busts! It is a disgusting shame that all that time and money spent on training the teams goes unrewarded because of corruption. The entire system is for sale.
