K.H.M.H. now offering full range of cardiology services
The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital will now be offering a full range of cardiology services. The K.H.M.H. partnered with the Carolina Healthcare System’s International Medical Outreach to establish its first fully-equipped echocardiography laboratory. The program was inaugurated today and the K.H.M.H. is benefiting not only from equipment but also training for doctors and nurses. Representatives from the IMO were on hand for the opening.
Dr. Francis Rubicsek, International Medical Outreach Program
“Here the situation was ripe. You have a treasure in Belize called Dr. Coye. He has all the qualifications, but what he needs is a helping hand and assistance and that’s what we are doing now. When I came to visit my friend, the late Barry Bowen, he asked me what can we do in Belize? We had our program already ready to go so it was very easy to move in.”
Dr. Adrian Coye, Director of Medical Services, K.H.M.H.
“There are so many who have helped us to reach to this major points and milestone that we talk about and there are willing partners within the hospital, we talk about our nurses, our matrons, our doctors, the attendants, you know when they see me dragging big equipment around they know that something extra is going to happen. It again exemplifies the fact that with vision there is provision that makes a very nice way of coining it. We have very, very good and dedicated medical personnel in this hospital and when I came and when Dr. Bulwer came we saw that. The opportunity was there to help to change the trajectory of the institution; we will have you know challenging days ahead and we will always have in the forefront of our agenda our target. We are aiming for excellence and there is a transformation that is happening, in management, in the wards, in our Intensive Care, we are going to be redoing or gutting the one we have and doing it over. So we will have an environment for Dr. Hidalgo, Dr. Arriaga and all team to continue to basically sharpen the knife or develop their skills more for the benefit of the people. This is a very, very exciting time in this institution and the fact that we have such willing partner to share this journey with us, it is just amazing what then sometimes we say then what next am I having too small a dream or are we dreaming too small or should we go for the whole shebang.”
