Extradition request for Deon Bruce is granted

Deon Bruce

In July of last year, twenty-eight-year-old Deon Bruce was arrested by Belize City police and held in detention at the Queen Street Precinct pending what his family believed would have been a summary extradition to the United States.  Bruce is wanted in Chicago for a murder in which U.S. authorities say he was the alleged triggerman.  He is also being sought for attempted murder, as well as possession of a firearm in connection with the same incident.  Since then he has been held at the Belize Central Prison where he joined several inmates, who were also fighting extradition for various crimes, including Rhett Fuller, who was released yesterday after an extradition request was denied.  This morning, before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith, Bruce, in the company of Senior Counsel Godfrey Smith, learned his fate.  Unlike Fuller, who was released on Thursday, following a protracted legal battle, Bruce is headed to the United States to stand trial.  His attorneys had fought tooth and nail for Bruce’s case to be heard in the local courts prior to being handed over.  This morning a tearful Bruce was escorted out of the Magistrate’s Court after learning after the decision was handed down.  In 2013, three other men, including Karol Mello, Khalid Jamil El Turk and Rhett Fuller were fighting deportation to Slovakia and the United States, respectively.  The trio was successful in their individual efforts at remaining free men.

This kid must not have enough money to pay for his release. The crop they used as the decision for not sending Rhett to the US is pure bull. Someone mad that happen, some cash went somewhere.
