Teachers plan to take to the City streets

On Friday, teachers from the Belize District and the Cayes will march in Belize City before holding a rally in Battlefield Park. That move is part of a series of planned industrial actions countrywide under the banner of the B.N.T.U.  Last Friday, hundreds of teachers in Corozal and Orange Walk marched under the B.N.T.U. banner. The primary catalyst is the salary adjustment promised for July 2014, retroactive to April. Teachers want the commitment in black and white, so there can be no last minute waffling by G.O.B.  Not only that, but teachers also want to know the quantum of that adjustment. Currently that figure is unspecified. They are also taking a stand against corruption and a list of national issues. There has been some measure of criticism by the Ministry of Education, since schools closed in those areas where the actions were planned. But the teachers have remained determined and on Friday, they will assemble at eight a.m. at Constitution Park before marching through the main streets of the city. The march ends at Battlefield Park with a rally.
