Guatemalan Minister of the Interior confirms arrest of a Guatemalan drug lord in Belize

We reported on Monday, that Guatemalan authorities have arrested as many as thirty seven persons involved in a contraband ring which transported liquor, cigarettes, corn and lumber. An operation was launched across the border in Melchor and the arrests were made involving Guatemalan customs officials. A further report says that a Jordanian businessman with Guatemalan nationality, Farid Nassar Massis Matus, who also goes by the name of “El Patron,” was arrested among the group. Massis is the owner of Armeria de Defensa, which trades in arms and ammunitions.  The Guatemalan police on Saturday confiscated a cache of nine hundreds pistols and rifles and from Massis’ business to verify if the weapons were legally obtained. Massis, says the report, directly purchased liquor and cigarettes from Panama’s Free zone and personally monitored the goods as they made their way from Panama and Belize to the Guatemalan capital. The group of detainees has been charged with Customs Fraud, Evasion of Customs Duty, Conspiracy, Conspiracy to Commit Smuggling and Illegal Trafficking of Flora and Fauna.
