Guatemalan Minister of the Interior confirms arrest of a drug lord in Belize

There is also further information on the reported arrest of alleged drug baron, Eribel Adolfo Rodriguez Barrientos. Rodriguez, according to the Guatemalan Minister of the Interior, was arrested in Belize by the US Drug Enforcement Agency, but police here tell News Five that they did not participate in the arrest. Rodriguez was wanted by the US as the heir to one of Guatemala’s main drug trafficking organizations formerly headed by Mario Paredes Cordova who is imprisoned in the US. Paredes organization’s reportedly imported tons of cocaine into the United States.  Minister Mauricio Lopez Bontilla told a radio station police and military have searched Rodriguez’s properties in Guatemala.

 “The Guatemalan, Eribel Rodriguez Barrientos, was captured in Belize by DEA Agents, according to the Minister of the Interioer, Mauricio Lopez Bonilla, who indicated that the detainee is known to run a drug trafficking route klinked to Jorge Mario “El Gordo” Paredes. That capture took place in Belize by the DEA. This person was left in charge of a drug route following the arrest of a man known as “El Gordo” Paredes, who was extradited to the United States. This route was active along Guatemala and into Mexico. We are now working with operatives in the Fifth Vice Ministry along with the anti-narcotic directorate of general analysis and information. He also added that two properties belonging to the captured were raided in Guatemala. He stated that after the arrest in Belize, there were no more orders for his arrest, although prosecutors are looking for evidence in order to establish other connections. That detainee said that he has an application for his extradition from Belize to the United States.”

 

According to a report, Rodriguez was arrested sometime in December 2013.
