Man remanded for robbery

Keron Pinto

A Belize City youth has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison for robbing a man at gunpoint. Twenty-two-year-old Keron Pinto appeared before Magistrate Dale Cayetano this morning, where he was read a single charge of robbery. He pleaded not guilty to the offense, but due to the nature of the offense, bail was denied and he was remanded until March twentieth.  According to police, just before midnight on New Year’s Eve, Jayford Cacho was riding his bicycle on West Collet Canal when he rode pass a group of three men. He recognized Pinto, who called for him. But when he went to see what Pinto wanted, it was to ask for money. He refused several requests after which one of the men from the group pulled out an orange in color handgun and pointed it in Cacho’s face, before punching him repeatedly in the face. Pinto it is reported then searched Cacho’s pants pockets and stole his white Apple brand I-pod Touch, valued at two thousand five hundred dollars. The men then made good their escape, but a quick report by Cacho, led to the apprehension of Pinto, who was found in possession of the I-Pod.
