Man receives five years for chopping ex’s boyfriend

Lelsie Farzer

A man who was found guilty eleven days ago of attempted murder of the boyfriend of his ex, was sentenced today. Leslie Frazer was given an eight year prison term. But Justice Adolph Lucas told him today that he will only serve five years since the victim was the one who provoked the incident. Frazer, a security guard of Belize City was convicted for the May twenty-ninth, 2011 attempted murder of Faron Waight, the boyfriend of his estranged ex-common-law-wife, Donna Mortis. During the trial both Waight and Mortis testified as witnesses to the attempted murder. Waight was chopped several times and gravely injured. He testified that while he was at his home, located at the corner of King and Amara Avenue, he saw Frazer in the area. That prompted him to grab a piece of stick and he set chase after him on his bicycle. Waight finally caught up with Frazer, who then pulled out a machete from a bag and chopped him to the back of his head.  Waight further testified that during the attack, he fell to the ground and that’s when Frazer chopped him multiple times. Before imposing a jail term, Justice Lucas said that while he found Frazer guilty of the crime of attempted murder, he found that Waight provoked the incident because he pursued Frazer.
