Florida Caribbean Cruise Association bring cheer to the needy

Every year the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association partners with the Belize Tourism Board and the Ministry of Tourism to bring cheer to needy children. About two hundred children headed up the House of Culture for the 2013 party. Santa was present and bearing gifts and by all accounts children thoroughly enjoyed this year’s event. Duane Moody was also on hand.

Some two hundred Belize City primary school children gathered at the House of Culture in Belize City to experience fun, laughter and excitement—all in the spirit of Christmas season. The children—chosen at random and based on their needs —were treated to lunch, face-painting and a lot of other fun activities. Both eleven year old Angelie Thomas and nine year old Tyrell say that Sponge Bob was the best feature of the event.

“We have approximately two hundred kids coming from seven constituencies—some like Mesopotamia, Lake I and Queen Square; just to name a few. So we all brought them here today so that they can enjoy this Christmas event.”

Reporter

“Tell us about what they will be getting?”

Arlo Cansino

“The FCCA brought over approximately two hundred gifts from the kids. So they will be getting that from Santa Clause. They are getting some great entertainment from Ozzie the Clown and also Sponge Bob and Mickey Mouse will be here as well.”

The annual Christmas party is held in partnership by the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association, the Belize Tourism Board and the Ministry of Tourism.

“It is part of our corporate social responsibility to also help people—also giving them what we…because it’s help for the community and giving part of what we earn to the community.”

Reporter

“I know they are getting gifts, they are getting of course the joy of Christmas…tell us about all the things that they are getting courtesy of you guys.”

Zeny Cleveland

“First of all, this is an annual activity. We give toys; we have Santa here for the kids to enjoy the party. You know, it is the spirit of Christmas, the joy of giving. So we have that spirit and we want to share what we have.”

And according to Destination Planning and Development Assistant of the Belize Tourism Board, Arlo Cansino, the event helps to strengthen the bond between the FCCA and its member countries.

Arlo Cansino

“The FCCA thought that this is a way to giving back to the countries. We are a member of the FCCA so this is one way to give back to the countries along with different other projects that they do like the essay contest and the poster competition. It is just things that they do to give back to the country.”
