Auguirre’s family still waiting on DNA results and death certificate

On September seventh, Belmopan Police were called to a nightmarish scene in the village of Teakettle. In the trunk of a taxicab which had been parked on a deserted stretch of road, they found the charred remains of a human body. The taxi belonged to Daniel Aguirre, one of KTV Latino’s most memorable champions. A post-mortem examination was inconclusive because the body was burnt beyond recognition, but Aguirre’s family was convinced that he had been murdered and burned. Since September seventh they have been waiting for the results of an analysis of a DNA sample to bring closure to the case. But after three months they have gotten nothing, and reports surfaced on Monday that the bank was looking to seize the home of Aguirre. Mike Rudon travelled to Belmopan today and has the story.

After three months, a black bow still rests above the front door of a home which was owned by KTV champion Daniel Aguirre, believed dead since September seventh. His common law wife Milagro lives there with her two young children, and told us today that life has been very hard without her provider and the father of her children.

“It’s been rough; I can’t work because I have two young daughters. They are going to school. So who is helping me are my brother-in-law and my son-in-law. I can’t work because I have to come 12 o’clock to feed them for lunch and no job they will tell me, okay you can go check on your daughters and those stuff. The most I will make maybe is twenty dollars a day and what is that right?”

And Milagro’s troubles seemed to get worse yesterday after she was informed that the bank which holds the mortgage for the home was looking to foreclose. She has not been able to make the monthly payments of four hundred and sixty dollars, and insurance has not paid off the mortgage because she has not been able to provide a death certificate to prove that Aguirre is dead.

“This morning went to the back because they called me from the bank and we went there because they had rumors that how the 6th of this month they were going to take away the house and stuff like that because every month they have to be paying right. Well we went to the bank and talked to the manager and the manager said that those are rumors because it’s not true and they need to go through a process if they want to take away the house. And to go through that process they need a death certificate if they wanted to take away the house and the police are taking too long to give us that.”

According to Garcia, even though the bank has agreed to give her some time, they need the death certificate so that insurance can pay off the mortgage and the home can be hers free and clear. But instead of providing relief, that news is little consolation because the Police have been no help. They allegedly sent a DNA sample abroad months ago for testing, but Milagro’s every attempt to get answers has been frustrated.

“I’ve been going constantly to the police station to check. I went and they said come this Friday and then come next Friday and like that they have me with lone lies. They keeping me back they are not doing nothing. Well the police not even care, it’s not their problem right. It’s my problem. I will stay without a house, without nothing. I am asking make the police get in my shoes and feel what I’m feeling if they can’t even do a death certificate paper right now for me because I need it because of the problem I am having with the bank; then what will happen to the justice of my husband. That means it won’t be served any justice because not even a death certificate paper they can’t do. They had me with lies come this Friday and next Friday and next Friday. I asked my brother-in-law to go and check it for me. They told him that they haven’t even move a paper yet, that all the papers are they. When are we going to get the DNA results. At least a letter from the police station that we can take it to the back to give me some more time because DNA testing need to go out of the country and then they will come and then okay and then we can get the death certificate but not even that they want to do.”

According to Belmopan Police, they sent the sample to the National Forensic Science Service early in the investigation, so the matter is out of their hands.

News Five tried to reach head of the National forensic Science Service David Henderson for comment up to news time today, but we got no response.
