“Steeno” sentenced to fifteen years behind bars

Vincent Tillett

After twelve days on remand after being found guilty of manslaughter and not guilty of murder, Vincent “Steeno” Tillett learned his fate today when he appeared before Justice Adolph Lucas in the Supreme Court.  At the end of his mitigation plea this morning, Tillett was slapped with fifteen years behind bars.  In mitigation plea, Justice Adolph Lucas heard from three of Tillett’s character witnesses, including his friend, Alvin Hyde, his step-daughter, Naera Polanco and a Reverent Melvin Davis, whom all spoke well of the convicted prisoner saying Tillett was of good character and a family man who provided for his family.   On November fifteen, 2013, in a trial by judge without jury, Tillett was found guilty of a lesser charge of manslaughter by Judge Adolph Lucas.   Tillett according to the facts of the murder case, on February 13, 2011, stabbed Darwin Phillips once in the chest with a knife.  In the trial, it was revealed that Phillips was at the home of Denise Stuart, with who he shared a young child while Tillett had fathered four children with Stuart.   It was also revealed that when Tillett left the home that day, he later returned with two of his four children and that’s when he met Phillips at the home of Stuart. Tillett went into the kitchen, grabbed a kitchen knife and inflicted the fatal stab to Phillips. With the charge of murder reduced, Tillett will serve fifteen years in prison.
