Baby Jaguars face Costa Rica in final match of UNCAF U-16 tournament

The UNCAF Under-sixteen Tournament has wound down to its final match with Belize facing Costa Rica tonight.  Despite winning only one of four games thus far, the Baby Jaguars have played well considering the odds stacked against them.  The Football Federation of Belize says that Belize has shown marked improvement since its last outing to the UNCAF games.  First place however, remains up for grabs as Guatemala and Costa Rica are tied at eight points each.  Luis Pena, F.F.B.’s public relations officer gave us an update a few minutes ago.

“The UNCAF U-16 is presently in its last day.  We’ve had two matches up until now.  In the first game Nicaragua and El Salvador played and El Salvador ended with the win two to one over Nicaragua.  The second match between Guatemala and Honduras ended a few minutes ago.  The score for this was zero-zero.  So the next game is Belize/Costa Rica, so the teams are now tied. We have El Salvador and Guatemala tied at ten points and now we await the game with Belize against Costa Rica.  This is very crucial because the fight for the first place is between Guatemala and Costa Rica since Guatemala has eight goals for and four against.  And Costa Rica has six up to present with four against.  So they are nearly balanced.”

“Can you give us a recap of last night’s match between Belize and Honduras?”

“The game last night between Belize and Honduras was well played.  For the FFB it was well played because we only lost one to nothing and with the way the tournament is set up the selections have less than twenty-four hours to play.  And with the UNCAF Tournament the teams are playing five games total which means that the guys are really tired.  If you notice some of the changes that were made for the lineup we had some of the substitutes on the bench but we did a good performance and the guys, it’s not like before where these Central American teams from UNCAF use to come and beat us five to zero, seven to zero, three and zero.  So we are improving when it comes to football in Belize.”

The final match between Belize and Costa Rica airs on Channel Five immediately following this newscast.
