Nationality Scrutinizing Committee will limit role of social partners

Dean Barrow

In respect of the nationality scrutinizing committee….that issue was ventilated fully following the House Sitting when the Prime Minister faced the press for the first time since his return from the United States. When the Penner passport scandal broke, the committee was proposed to include social partners. Both the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the National Trade Union Congress of Belize have laid down their terms to participate. And there are concerns regarding the bestowal of decision-making and veto powers to those individuals who will sit on the board.  The idea of their inclusion, according to P.M. Barrow, is more about function than it is about emotions and optics.  Nonetheless, the P.M. strongly believes that the recommendations, once applied appropriately, will aid to achieve the work of the committee.

Dean Barrow

“After consultation with each of them I’ve said if they make recommendations we would accept those recommendations but I think the ship has sailed in terms of actually giving them the absolute authority to a point.  I really believe that they were wrong in making the sorts of demands they did as to veto power and as to ultimate authority.  You can’t take away from the executive what the constitution and what the electorate have both given to the executive but since the idea is to make this thing work rather than be concerned about sentiment and optics, if we get three good persons and true; either as a consequence of their recommendation or as a consequence of wider consultation that will cause the structure to work and effectiveness is what we’re looking at.  So I don’t think there’s any chance that we won’t achieve what we are seeking to do.”

what are the odds that will ever happen, UDP or PUP?
your government is corrupt and incompetent.

Meantime Deano, start the Belizean Space program to launch rockets to the moon.
    what a fool.

And thank you Honorable Minister Faber for giving Belize the worst education system in the Caribbean, that will be creating those Belizean astronauts.

BTW What is the latest on that math science teacher in Toledo?

Teachers who come to Belize are harassed. Rich criminals get a citizenship and never come to Belize!!! applied appropriately I assume.

After ten years this guy should have been given permanent residence, personally given to him by the PM or at least the minister of education. 300,000 Belizeans, 120,000 living in the US, it is not like Belize is that big. The PM does not have the time because the crimbinet is busy working the government extracting the money.

Mr. Barrow , we the Belizean people can and will change any law , any executive procedures and standing orders, and the Belizean Constitution because it is our God given right, and because such changes will be to the benefit of all Belizeans. Sir, maybe you are not aware that we must make the laws ; you must enforce them. All the laws you have proffered are made to enhance you and not the people. So we charge you with CORRUPTION and DERELECTION of official duties to uphold the laws of the land. As such you should be the first to be convicted under your new laws.
