B.N.T.U. brings down the pressure in passport scandal

Luke Palacio

On Tuesday, the B.N.T.U. sent out a release adding its significant voice to the condemnation of the passport scandal. It’s a significant move because the B.N.T.U. is one of the largest unions in Belize. Today National President, Luke Palacio, told News Five that if serious pressure had not come to bear, likely the matter would already have died a natural death. He claims that his union will not stand by and see that happen.

Luke Palacio, President, B.N.T.U.

“The membership of the union thought that we needed to make statements on this particular matter, as well as a number of other civil society organizations had asked what the is union doing as it relates to this very scandalous action that has been taken. We from the B.N.T.U. feel very strongly about this as it relates to the patrimony of our country, as it relates to our passport, as it relates to international travel. Our members and officers of the union and other unions and other civil society organizations do travel to other countries and so when they see a Belizean passport we don’t know what all we will be subject to. However we feel very strongly as well, that if indeed criminal activity has been committed, and all indications are that it has been, then we are saying to the powers that be let those who have the authority to investigate this matter do so, and let those perpetrators of this injustice be brought to justice. We say that the wheel of justice…we will keep it oiled, meaning that we are going to continue to monitor this action, monitor the outcome, and we are prepared to join with other organizations that are of like mind that believe that this matter needs to be resolved and that every measure be put in place so that this type of activity does not reoccur in our country. Our passport and our nationality have been placed in jeopardy by this type of activity. It would seem that based on what had happened initially where the former Minister of State was asked to resign from Cabinet that would have been a done deal. But because of the type of pressures, because of the interest of the Belizean people and I believe more so because of their patriotism we have decided that this just cannot be swept under the rug like most things have been happening in our country. So we feel very strongly that yes, the government has been brought to bear to do exactly what is needed in trying to resolve this matter for the benefit of all Belizeans and for future generations.”

  1. the powers that be have spoken says:

Luke, you guys need to back off.

Barrow has spoken. The investigation is done.

Hulse has locked the doors, nothing going on in there but shredding. Arthur broke the law, he should not have seen those documents, there were in the shred-first file cabinet, never should have left the building.

They are just waiting until everyone forgets before they release the report.

Meantime, everybody hold out your hands, a few dollars are coming your way, just do not sign that recall, and report to us anyone who does we will figure out a way to invalidate them like we always do. Go Honorable Penner!!! a true UDP man of fine stature who does what he is told.

He only got a small cut on those passport and visa sales. His boss set those deals up and got the big cheese. Penner is just a lowly UDP minister, the other cabinet guys have the brains to plan it. Look at the guy, looks like a deer in the headlights. Somebody had to button his shirt in the morning.

It is Thursday! Time to booty call UDP style. Put another passport in the FEDEX, so we can party this weekend.

what a bunch of idiots. they might have made $3-30 million, but cost the country $500million, or a lot more if Belizean passports become useless travel documents. Reminds me of the idiots who destroyed a Belize City medical clinic tearing out the copper and smashing everything to get a couple old computers. $1000 haul with $300,000 in collateral damage, plus dying sick people screwed. These are the people who should be replacing horses to till the fields. Horses have more class.

No worry, BIL will fix everything. It is the UDP exit/retirement plan.

  2. Name Witheld says:

@the powers that be have spoken,
3-30 millions? not even close how about 30 to 300 Millions add or multiply by 2 or 3 so that would be $60 to $900 Millions, Remember when they said Penner went to see Dean about his pay, they weren’t talking about his Government Salary, he wanted his big cut so that he can go back to His Homeland of Canada, but Dean threatened him and told him to be steadfast or he will end up in a shallow grave or he will turn up missing or hanging from a wooden beam with a suicide note in his hand… asked him about that on and by the way he won’t get his big cut until this blows off like a little breeze, but with Mr. Arthur Saldivar; this ain’t blowing off anytime soon. KUDOS to Mr Arthur Saldivar!!!!!

  3. Al says:

Haha. They have Penner safely tucked away in a private hospital ward where the media nor investigators can touch him. The doctors have strict orders to tell everyone that he is under medical care and cannot be questioned at this time or they can be sued. The government knows that Penner can easily be cracked under pressure, so, take him out of the limelight. Put pressure on Saldivar instead. Bunch of nonsense. Lets see Saldivar’s Dream Team 2, when they arrest him for handling stolen goods.
