Huge bust of fake Nike products at Customs

There was a huge bust of counterfeit fake goods on Monday night worth millions of dollars. Customs officials were keeping an eye out for the fake goods since last week and when the goods came in on Monday, customs moved in.  An estimated five million dollars of fake goods arrived in three containers from China consigned to a store in the Corozal Free Zone. The list includes thirty-one thousand pairs of Converse tennis, twenty-seven thousand pairs of Nike tights, thirteen thousand pairs of Nike tennis shoes and thousands of Channel bags. Customs officials say that the fake goods would have made their way into Mexico through the free zone and redistributed into Central American countries such as Panama, Honduras and El Salvador.

“We received some information from our security for Nike in China that there were three containers making their way to Belize that contained counterfeit Nike products and converse products. As a result of that we gave that information to the customs department. Morgan and Morgan are the representatives of Nike and Converse and Chanel and by way of delegation I am the attorney for Nike and Converse here in Belize. Customs then intercepted the containers. Two of which were searched yesterday. One of the containers revealed almost thirteen thousand pairs of Nike sneakers, all of which were counterfeit. We also have a regional representative Mr. Mario Baizar who is the head investigator in the region who attended the revision of the containers and he determined that they were in fact counterfeit. This has been verified by the forensic experts in Oregon which is the parent company in the U.S.”

“I understand that these three containers were destined for the commercial free zone. Can you reveal which company these products were going to and is this the first time that something like this has happened?”

“No, over the past two years since I have been involved with Nike we have seen several shipments but in smaller parts. I think the most we have seen in one shipment is two thousand and add pairs. But consistently over the years we have found that it has decreased significantly over the past six to seven months so we were quite surprised that such a large amount was actually confiscated or ceased by customs.”

Reporter

“Where was it going to? I understand that it was a business in the Corozal Free Zone. Can you tell us the name of the business and who is the person that is actually bringing in those products?”

Via Phone: David Morales

“So far I don’t have all the information as to who are the principal owners of the company. I believe the company was Pacific Ocean Interest Limited. They are the importers as is on the documents that are on all the containers.”

Morales says that according to their intel, for the past six to eight months there hasn’t been any Nike for sale at the Corozal Free Zone. But that once brought into the Zone, the goods are exported to Mexico.

Good job guys.. in our country north to south all u can find in the stores are cheap knock off tennis shoes not a decent pair of tennis shoes that last at least a year they only last like three months. Good to teach these business owners to get the good tennis shoes and they will still make a profit but because they are too greedy and we the people get cheated because of their greed.

  3. Eye in the Sky says:
