Crime Stats: Murder decreases while theft on the rise

There is good news coming out of the Police Department with respect to crimes. According to the figures released, major crimes are down by twelve point seven percent from January to July 2013 when compared to 2012. The release points to a significant decline in murder, from eighty-eight in 2012 to sixty-seven this year. And while rape, robbery, burglary and shooting crimes also experienced a drop in numbers, it was quite the contrary for theft and carnal knowledge offenses. The report shows that incidences of theft have increased by seven percent; from five hundred and forty cases to five hundred and seventy-seven. Carnal knowledge increased by a whopping sixty-nine percent from twenty-six to forty-four cases…these figures are up to July of this year when compared to 2012. As to the geographical location of these crimes, Stann Creek has shown a marked increase in major crimes from January to July. The report shows that the crimes down south increased by twenty-one from one hundred and seventy-five total offenses to one hundred and ninety-eight seeing increases in mainly burglary, theft and carnal knowledge.
