She escaped stabbing charges, but will be deported to Honduras

Wendy Xiomara Membrano Ardon

A Honduran woman, who was picked up by police in relation to a stabbing incident during which her husband was stabbed in Belize City over the weekend, may have escaped criminal charges for that matter but ended up having to answer to immigration offenses.   Twenty-four-year-old Wendy Xiomara Membrano Ardon, a domestic of a Gibnut Street address, was before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court this morning where she was arraigned for illegal entry.  Ardon had no passport or legal documents when picked up by police pending a stabbing incident.  She was uncooperative with immigration authorities and has been deemed a prohibited immigrant. Shortly before noon today, she appeared before Magistrate Dale Cayetano where she was read a single charge of deemed a prohibited immigrant under the immigration act.  Ardon, who speaks little English, was unrepresented but was provided with a translator.  She pleaded guilty to the offense and the Immigration Department made an application for her removal from the country which was granted by the magistrate.  She also told the magistrate that she never came to Belize on her own free will and that she was force to come here.  She was told that she was coming to Belize to work in a boutique but instead taken to a bar in Orange Walk to work where she had to “cater” to men.  Ardon was fined one thousand dollars which she was ordered to pay immediately or in default three months in prison. According to immigration officials, on Sunday, Ardon was picked up by the police after she allegedly stabbed her husband once to the left upper shoulder.  But no criminal charges were brought against her since her husband has requested no court action in the matter.

If her story is true. Immigration Officers should have help her get back home with out a fine. Immigration Officers should have look into it. Before taking her to Court.
