Buckley gets cheque for 50k

Stephen Buckley

That disappointing trip to the St. John’s Credit Union was taken at a little after midday. But just after two this afternoon Buckley got the news from his attorney Dickie Bradley that payment had been made – fifty-thousand dollars to be exact. News Five was there as Buckley made his second trip to the credit union with the checks he received from the government treasury clutched in his hand. When he emerged he was a happy man, though not as happy as he says he expected to be.

Today, Prime Minister Dean Barrow told News Five via phone that the preliminary payment made to Buckley will be one hundred thousand dollars. Buckley has received the first fifty-thousand and the additional payment of fifty thousand will be made next week. That, according to the PM, is still just a preliminary payment. The final lump sum payment made to Steven Buckley as compensation will be agreed on after further negotiation.
