Free Zone businessman says he’s innocent of narco-trafficking accusations

Samer Akil Rada

Samer Akil Rada’s name has surfaced in an ongoing investigation that goes back to a July nineteenth cocaine bust in El Salvador.  It involves two containers, one in which eight hundred and eighty pounds of cocaine was  found in frozen pineapples in El Salvador and  another which  Rada’s company transported from the western border  to the Corozal Free Zone. A search of one of his companies, Cargo Yo, at the commercial free zone, did not find anything incriminating.  News Five understands that officials from the Financial Intelligence Unit met with the Board of Directors of CFZ in Corozal today to discuss the matter. Rada, who is a former executive of the Corozal Free Zone, has spoken to the Mexican media; and today he issued a release to the local media. He says that it is the first time in which one of his companies has unknowingly been associated with or connected to such illegalities. The businessman says that his company was merely hired to provide logistical support for the delivery of the two containers originating from Costa Rica, to clear them at the Belize Customs Department, at the western border, and transport them to the Corozal Free Zone.  Rada says they were unaware of the contents of the containers, except what had been officially declared.  Rada asserts he is not a (Quote) “shady businessman and neither is he connected with any drug cartel and/or terrorist organization.” (Unquote) Rada describes himself as a genuine and legitimate investor at the Corozal Commercial Free Zone.  He also claims that he has never been knowingly involved in any illegitimate or illegal business transactions involving the trafficking of narcotics, arms/weapons, or human trafficking, the laundering of or facilitation of drug or terrorist derived or destined monies. And that neither has he been involved in the promotion or facilitation of any other criminal organizations, terrorist organization, or other criminal groups.  Rada’s companies, Grupo Sol Ltd. and Oxcel Ltd provide trading and logistical services to facilitate the delivery of their orders deriving from Miami, Panama, China, and other parts of the world.
