CIBC First Caribbean Bank wants you to Adopt-a-Cause

You probably already know of the annual Unsung Heroes Program which recognizes persons who selflessly serve their communities. That is a well known community programs initiated by CIBC First Caribbean Bank. The Adopt-a-Cause Program is another which is shared among all seventeen countries across the Caribbean in which CIBC First Caribbean Bank is located. The long running program provides small organizations with financial support, and is one way in which the institution and employees give back to the community.

Rosanna Villanueva, Business Support Officer, CIBC FirstCaribbean Bank

“A major component of the program is to get staff involved doing hands on work. So whenever we do these adopt-a-cause projects our staff actually goes out there and in the past we’ve laid cement blocks, we’ve painted, we’ve cleaned, scrubbed. So it is really to encourage volunteerism amongst our employees.”

“I know there are several projects that you are taking on, but one of them includes Water Walkers Club. Tell us about that and how these projects are chosen.”

“They way the program work is that we have our staff, the employees divided into teams. So each of our branches in Belmopan, Dangriga, Orange Walk are all a team on their own and in Belize City, we also have three teams. And each year, they get together their individual committees, brainstorm and look around in their communities for little projects that they think can use the assistance. So each team actually picks its own project and decides what they are going to do, how they are going to do it. The bank gives each team a certain amount of funds and the team then decides how they will augment these funds.  Water Walkers I know has an afterschool program that they do; tutoring in the afternoon trying to help children from the neighborhood who are not maybe as well off as others. So they provide afterschool tutoring, classes; they provide food and things like that. So that team, our entire retail Belize City team, decided to assist Water Walkers.”

The Adopt-a-Cause Program has also yielded several nominees for the bank’s unsung heroes program.
