Who killed Pedro Antonio Vasquez?

On Sunday morning, fifty-one-year-old Pedro Antonio Vasquez, a Guatemalan national, was brutally murdered in Benque Viejo del Carmen after a night of socializing on the town.  While his son initially came forward to say that Vasquez was last seen at the Picadilly Lounge, he has since retracted that statement.  The laborer was discovered lying in a pool of blood, adjacent to a service station on Churchill Street sometime after four o’clock.  Vasquez was pulverized by an unknown assailant who struck him repeatedly in the face, causing massive injuries to the left and right side of his forehead.  He was transported to the San Ignacio Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.  A post mortem examination was conducted on the body on Monday; however, a death certificate declaring Vasquez dead remains to be filed since the family cannot produce an official form of identification.  News Five spoke with Assistant Superintendent Dinsdale Thompson for an update on the murder investigation.

“The doctor has certified that death was caused [as a result of] injuries that were received, hemorrhage to the brain which caused blood to flow into the airway that caused [his] death.  As you have said that yes, rightly, we have not issued, the doctor has not issued a death certificate because the body needs to be properly identified since he’s a Guatemalan.  There is no, the family does not have a social security [card] or any other official form of identification for him.  So, yes the body was handed over to the family but a death certificate at this moment has not been issued until that can, an ID can properly be produced to the doctor by a family member.”

“How does that work?  Are they allowed to proceed with a burial for him and then the death certificate is issued afterwards if they are able to provide that identification?”

ASP Dinsdale Thompson

“Yes.  At this moment, yes that is so because the doctor has already released the body to them but we are still waiting for a positive identification document which should be produced by the family.  One family member was at the post mortem [examination] who identified him, however, the document is still needed for an official death certificate to be issued to the family members.”

”Where do you stand with regards to the investigation into the murder of Mr. Vasquez?”

ASP Dinsdale Thompson

“In relation to the investigation, we are still carrying out our investigation.  We haven’t made an arrest as yet but we are doing all that we can working along with other individuals who are supporting us in regards to assistance that we are looking for and we are looking as well too to the community.  As I said, if they have any information that they can come forward with.  We have interviewed a couple people, however, nothing so far in relation to any arrests at this present moment but as I said we are doing everything that we can to get to the bottom of what led to Mr. Pedro’s death.”

Pedro Antonio Vasquez migrated to Belize from Guatemala to establish his family fifteen years ago.  His death followed a previous incident during which he was also badly beaten.

Useless crime investigators. They could find bars and drunks to harrass but cannot find a clue to a murder. In fact, they are not looking and never will.
