Accused of sexual assault but paying fines keeps accused out of jail

Shawn Eusey

Twenty-six year old Shawn Eusey was today spared from remand at the Central Prison following charges of theft and the aggravated assault of an indecent nature upon a thirty-one year old woman. The victim, a Sand Hill resident, reported that she was sexually assaulted by Eusey at around three-thirty this past Friday morning after he picked her up near Pallotti. On their way to Sand Hill, the accused allegedly asked her if she would mind if he stopped off in Belama to drop something off.  According to the woman, Eusey then drove the van into an open lot on George Arthurs Street in Belama and attempted to fondle her breast. A struggle ensued and she yelled out for help. A concerned citizen heard her screams and police rushed to her aid, but before making good his escape, Eusey allegedly robbed her of her personal belongings including a chain and a cell phone. In court this morning, the Computer Technician was charged with two criminal offenses and pleaded not guilty to both charges. Bail was initially denied due to an outstanding balance of one thousand two hundred and twenty dollars owed to the court for previous convictions for traffic offenses and drug trafficking.  But by this afternoon, Eusey was able to pay his outstanding fines and he was brought back to court and Magistrate Hamilton offered him bail in the sum of one thousand dollars plus one surety of the same amount. He was also ordered to stay away from the victim.
