Barrow’s important meeting with the evangelical churches

On Friday, News Five aired comments by Prime Minister Dean Barrow on a variety of pertinent front-line issues. We’ll have some more from the PM tonight, but first to the reason he was at the George Price Center on Friday morning. Barrow was part of a very important meeting with pastors from every district in the country. And it wasn’t about the gender policy. If we read it correctly, it was more of an olive branch offered by the church in the spirit of commitment and co-operation. The meeting was organized by Richard Smith, director of My Refuge Christian Radio.

“I believe the time has come when we need to establish a great representation to bring that working relationship between church and government. So I had asked for that meeting and Prime Minister approved of it. At first it was a little difficult, but today, I believe we came away with the same objective. The Prime Minister feels encouraged because the church one is praying and two, the church is committed to the moral values. We are the conscience of the nation and there is a role that nobody else can play but the church. So the church has to come in line to start to sit at the table to disagree and still agree under certain circumstances without compromise. And so this meeting was basically that; an ongoing commitment to start to play a role for the church for national development.”

“It went extremely well. I was very pleased and I considered it a privilege to be able to talk to so many of them. Naturally it’s reassuring when these people explain that they don’t just minister to the soul but minister to the body as well. A number of them do all sorts of practical programs in terms of helping people to build homes, helping to provide school books and schoolbags for children, helping to do school feeding programs…I suppose in a sense I was aware that to some extent that takes place, but the extent was quite a revelation. So I guess both from a spiritual and a practical point of view it was a very good meeting.”

Prime Minister Barrow says that the group has committed to meeting quarterly, and a committee will be set up to improve the channels of communication between government and the church.

This statement by the PM about the ministers ministering not only to the soul but the body is so lame. The church leaders should not have to say they are committed to the moral values, that is first and foremost the responsibility of the church. Obviously our PM does not know much about God and what God stands for or he would not allow all the ugly things to continue.

Here is one for you PM, the Bible says that when the right man is in rule over the people the people are happy. What does that mean to you. It tells me you need to go.
