Sports Guru James Adderly awesome weekend highlights

James Adderley

Good evening I’m James Adderly and this is Sports Monday.

The FFB’s female interdistrict football competition saw two arch rivals take to the arena as DFC Gentle Touch took aim at Triple B in a pivotal ball game for both clubs.

Folks were in the 2nd minute of the ball game when Kiana Martinez threads the needle to Noemi Magana who looks for Iris Centeno inside the box, Cynthia Salazar tries to clear—the ball goes only as far as Elthene Gentle whose attempt to clear crashes into the net for the 1-zip Triple B lead off the auto goal.

13 minutes later Kimberly Perez finds Kiana Martinez with this nice lead pass and the national 100 meters champion takes the opportunity to display her dazzling speed by reaching the ball ahead of everyone else to fire this right foot bomb that makes this a 2-nil score.

Jenisha Scott then tries to make it a 3-nil lead when she fires from outside the 18 only to see the shot travel wide of goal

Meanwhile Kiana Martinez tries for the double on this press but time is denied by the horizontal bar, the rebound reaches Noemi Magana who fires at goal, Kendra Gentle tries to rescue her beaten goalkeeper which rightly brings a penalty call from the referee plus a red card.

Kaya Cattouse steps up and just like that Triple B takes a 3 zip lead score 25 minutes in.

Gentle touch looks to pull one back when Kimberly Perez attacks off the right side with this shot that bounces off the crossbar.

It’s Gentle Touch still looking for a goal as Perez now attacks off to the left side and this time the right foot launch beats Idania Ramirez to make it a 3-1 score just before the half expires.

In early 2nd half action Kimberly Perez deals to Abbi Holliday who should really have done better with this look at goal.

It’s Perez again in the role of provider dealing to Cindy Fuentes who uncorks a high riser.

Abbi Holliday gets a chance at redemption on this look at goal from pointblank range but raises the ball over the crossbar. Triple B comes away with the 3-1 big W.

Now let’s check in on the Cayo 1st Division championship which was also staged at the FFB and we pick up the action after a scoreless 1st half between Roaring Creek and San Martin Aquilas.

Roaring Creek gets the 1st good look at goal after intermission when Ajani Banner picks up this loose ball and fires the left foot that is easily handled by the goal keeper.

At the other end the Aquila’s Giovanni Lopez gets off this nice shot at goal but Jose Mangar comes up with a better save. However poor defensive play gifts this ball back to Lopez who this time makes them pay as San Martin takes a 1-zip lead.

This creates a little more tension than is necessary as fistcuffs erupts until cooler heads provide some calm and one player from Roaring Creek is sent off.

A few minutes later, San Martinez with the main advantage launches this attack that sees Santiago Cruz’s attempt is repelled by Jose Mangar—the rebound reaches Henry Gomez and San Martinez Aquilas take the Cayo Div. Title with a 2-nil victory. We also say kudos to Robert Sutherland who walked away with the most valuable player award.

In basketball news we caught up with the action ina BDBA Firms competition so we focus 2nd half play between City Council and Courts with the Council leading 36 to 26.

Romel Gonzalez hooks up with Kenroy Usher who launches the triple and would lead all players tonight with 17 pts as the City Council forges ahead.

At the other end Delroy Caliz works his way through traffic for 2 of his 10 pts for Courts.

We’re in the 4th quarter and Courts is making a run when Tyrone Anthony strides for 2 of his 13 pts.

Keith Pollard who would lead his team with 14 pts gets Courts even closer with this deuce.

Pollard comes up with a crucial bucket for Courts but the run falls short as City Council goes on to post the 62-56 big W.
