Slain Orange Walk Taxi man laid to rest

Today the remains of what is believed to be the body of Orange Walk taxi-man Hugo Moreno were laid to rest by his grieving family and friends. The forty-two year old taxi-man was reported missing on Monday after he failed to come home Sunday night. On Tuesday afternoon his car was found burned about a mile behind the village of Carmelita outside of Orange Walk Town, and when Police searched the vehicle they found charred remains in the trunk. On Wednesday, Moreno’s wife, Magda, viewed the remains at the K.H.M.H. morgue, but because of the condition of the body we are told she was unable to state definitively that the remains are those of her husband. The post-mortem examination was also unable to determine a cause of death. A friend of the family told News Five today that Magda had hoped to identify her husband by one of his front teeth which was chipped, but they were allegedly cracked and broken and she could not do so. Still, the circumstances have been enough to convince the Police that the body is that of Hugo Moreno, and he was handed over to the family. Today a convoy of taxis with black bows followed the coffin through the streets of Orange Walk Town, and after the body was delivered to the La Inmaculada Church, the taxis participated in a short motorcade through the main streets of town to salute their fallen colleague and to send a message of protest against violence to taxi-drivers.

SO sad and my condolences goes out to this family! I sure hope this was indeed Hugo Moreno and not someone else! As I just read an article of a family who buried their supposedly, love one who turned up 13 days later, and that other body had to be exhumed for proper identification
