Pro-gay protest to be held in the north

Elisa Castellanos

There’s a peaceful demonstration planned for Orange Walk this weekend and it’s all about the gender policy. If you first reaction is – pro-constitution march AGAIN you would be wrong. This time it’s just the opposite. A group calling itself TikkunOlam Belize is organizing an event for Saturday which supports the gender policy as it is, with no changes. Organizers of the event Elisa Castellanos and Kevin Mendez told us that the idea was born from watching the anti-gender policy protests and marches countrywide send what they feel is the wrong message to Belizeans. They’ll be out at the Barracks in Orange Walk Town this weekend with supporters and placards sending a message that everyone needs to read and understand the gender policy because it is a good thing for everybody.

Elisa Castellanos, TikkunOlam Belize

“I felt as a woman that it wants to decide what women can and cannot do in a society and want to set the norm of what women can and cannot do and what serves they have access to and what empowerment trainings and spaces for development that women will have. So I decided along with Kevin that we wanted to show people that it is okay to read the gender policy. Whatever your spiritual and religious beliefs are, it is okay to read the gender policy.”

Kevin Mendez, Community Activist

“It is a pro-gender policy because as how Elisa mentioned, it benefits all women, men; boys and girls. So it doesn’t really—it isn’t just an LGBT thing—but at the end of the day, both men and women because we have a lot of irregularities in our governmental system and our laws; so at the end of the day, the gender policy commits to fulfill thee irregularities. So there are a lot of benefits for men and women so that is what we are fighting for. After we read it and after seeing what has been happening with all these parades by the church, it’s obvious that people had not sat down and read and educated themselves on the gender policy. So our initiative is for people to educate themselves and start to want to change the mentality of others. So that’s the aim of what we are doing; it is not an LGBT thing, but it is just saying that gender policy is okay because everyone benefits from it.”

Kevin Mendez

“We want people to take time, and take a stand; to read the gender policy. We are not asking you to like anybody that you may not like or to associate with people that you may not like or even for women. A woman doesn’t fall in a certain norm of society. So we are asking people to read the gender policy for yourself and understand it.”

Kevin Mendez

“I just want to invite people. We are going to be at the barracks and nine-thirty a.m. because the gender policy is good for all of us.”

Castellanos and Mendez say that they can be contacted via Facebook if anyone has any questions or wants to join in the pro-gender policy event this Saturday.

A wise individual who goes by the handle moses EX PC once said:

“Nature has always corrected itself and balanced life in many ways. Could AIDS be the panacea for the sickness of homosexuality. How can one argue that same sex is not a disease, against the law of nature. Yes. It exists but it is unnatural. Life’s sole purpose is to procreate. Along the way, we try to enjoy life as best as we can by acquiring pleasures but in the end the cycle of life is……continues, forever and ever Amen. I don’t ever use the bible to bolster my arguments but in this case, the destruction of the sodomites was necessary for the continuation of life. A farmer plucks out and destroys from his orchard all the non-producing plants. We can allow those who are different to be isolated less they corrupt us all with their disease. Homosexuality is a disease, an addiction. Consider recent events, priests porking deaf kids, others porking drunk old men, the disease is strong and they will do anything to satisfy their addiction.”

Elisa Castellanos, no offence! We have read the Woman’s Gender Policy 2013. We have marched to uphold the Constitution of Belize, because it is a good constitution for all. There are things in the gender policy that is diametrically opposite to the constitution. Nobody said, that good things are not in the gender policy. All we are asking, is that we weed out the bad parts and make the woman’s gender policy an even more wonderful document. If I give you a wonderful dish, and tell you that I added a little poison to it, will you still eat it no matter how small the dosage? I guess not! To adapt the Gender policy, AS IS, means we would have to change our constitution and our complete way of life!

  6. Concern says:

It is not a Pro-gay protest to be held in the north! The interviews and the idea expounded is self explanatory. They want people to accept the Woman’s Gender Policy 2013, and its just a gathering to try to put forth the good points in the policy, but its not a protest . Mischievous headlines, cause you journalist know how to read, understand and write. Don’t add fire to a volatile situation. I am sure that at this gathering nothing will be said about the parts of the policy that is not favorable to the country of Belize.

  7. Ben says:

Geez Kevin, we all know you gay and yes, its an LGBT thing.. Community activist? please..

  8. history minded says:

I’m convinced that neither parties have read the gender policy – critically

  9. May says:

” We are not asking you to like anybody that you may not like or to associate with people that you may not like or even for women. ”

They lie. First they say this but the next thing you know they are suing people who won’t use their business for gay weddings.

Don’t believe them. Look to what is happening in the United States, the UK, Canada, and elsewhere to see where all of this leads.

  10. May says:

How does it benefit “boys and girls” for the opposite sex to use their bathrooms?

Yeah, first they will ask for separate bathrooms (can the Belize school system stand that expense) but then that won’t even be enough for them because they want society to acknowledge them for being the gender they aren’t. So they will demand that they get to use the opposite gender bathroom.

    Also,

Don’t be surprised when the government forces an all girl school to let a transgendered “girl” attend. I mean a biological boy of course.

  11. sickntired says:

This is why the authors of the gender policy should not have sneaked in lgbt issues into the document because they are causing so much division and confusion. Of course everybody would support the advancement of women as well as maintaining balance for males. But we no ready to support lgbt in such an open fashion. I could just imagine them consultants colected a big fat cheque and now play simple like if they cant make a few changes to gain wide acceotance of the document. Mek them fix the document cause it our tax dollars pay for it and we no want no lgbt thing in it.

Remember now that the pope is god’s representative on earth. Ostensibly they have occasional meetings and the word is passed down throughb the pope. That is if you believe that crap..
he pope may be a homosexual himself. But he choses to be celibate and join the priesthood. Understandably, he knows how strong the urges of homosexuality is; it is real. I have interviewed many homos and every one of them ( every man? ) said it is not a matter of choice. Homosexuality is real. It has been in existence for ever. My only concern is that most people won’t accept it as a birth defect. The only one thing we are certain about is that the purpose of every species is to procreate. Homosexuals can’t do that. The human species is one of the few species that derive ultimate pleasure from sex. Kudos to the pope for being celibate. Many of the clothe cannot and are being charged daily for pedophilia. It is impossible for a straight person to feel what gays feel. The gays say its the same feeling except it is towards same sex. Judged from a moral point of view, many see gays as making a conscious choice for perversion. Their DNA is screwed up, and there is nothing anyone can do about it even the pope. He made the right choice for himself to be celibate, but like every human beings he gets a woody once in a while, or at least he used to. Nature trumps God every time. The problem is what are we going to do with the homos. Many of them like oral sex with young Innocent straight boys who the lore with gifts shool fees cars drugs and drinks They are insidious and cunning and they love take young innocent batty and suck. In one case I worked they found a quart of semen in a dead homo.. He had a busy day. In intervuews they describe their feelings like heroin addiction, thier mouth flatter when the want young boy. Unu epeak up if I wrong . tell unus side ah the storty. WE HAVE TO PROTECT OUR YOUNG BOYS. rEMEMBER WHEN gOD DESTRY SODOM, HE SEND 2 ANGELS FI WARN jOB

Reading these posts make me sad for the church of God. So many people, with so many ideas; so many belief; so many scriptures; and most are used incorrectly. People quote everything from Genesis to Revelation and haven’t really studied it at all. Moses EX PC, did you know that the story of Sodom has NOTHING to do with homosexuality? Did you know that Jesus, Himself spoke about gender bias in the book of Matthew 19: 12? And in John 3: 16? I suppose the Pope missed that meeting.
