Deportees fly home to Belize

A team of ten men returning from the United States was received at the Phillip Goldson International Airport this afternoon.  The group was not the remaining members of the Belize Jaguars who stayed behind following elimination from the Gold Cup tournament; instead, they are ex-convicts who have served time in the US penal system for various criminal offenses.  Eight of them were incarcerated on felony charges, while the other two were deported for non-criminal offenses.  One of the men, whose name we will withhold, will be escorted to Cayo where he is wanted for handling stolen goods.  That individual is also being sought by Orange Walk police for burglary.  Another of the ten men, who is being expatriated for a second time, is wanted by local authorities for failure to report his address after having been extradited from the United States previously.  The men arrived in an unmarked aircraft around three o’clock this afternoon and were being held inside the arrival lounge by US Marshalls before being released into the custody of the Gang Suppression Unit.
