WinBelize supports Gender Policy

The Revised Gender Policy 2013 has come under attack from various sectors, but today, the Women’s Issues Network better known as Win Belize came out in support of the policy. Win Belize says the National Gender Policy is founded on principles outlined in the Belize Constitution and in International Conventions and Agreements signed and ratified by the Government of Belize. It calls the document a progressive development policy promoting human rights, gender equality and gender equity.  The release says, (Quote) “Gender equality implies that the interests, needs and priorities of both women and men are taken into consideration, recognizing the diversity of different groups of women and men.” (Unquote)  Win Belize has also contacted its member organizations and there is full acceptance of the revised policy.  On September-third, 2010, Win Belize received a grant totaling two hundred thousand U.S. dollars. At the time it was revealed that the two hundred thousand dollars would address gender based violence in Belize.

    “Women’s Issues Network of Belize (WIN-Belize) has contacted its member organizations and has reached consensus on the full acceptance of the Revised National Gender Policy 2013″ Note, the member organizations: Alliance Against AIDS; Belize Audubon Society; Belize Enterprise for Sustainable Technology; Belize Family Life Association; CARE Belize;
Fajina Chairladies Association; Haven House; Mary’s Open Doors; Plenty Belize; Productive Organization for Women in Action – POWA; Sazani Associates; United Belize Advocacy Movement; Youth Enhancement Services; and Young Women’s Christian Association.

How completely irresponsible to depict that the endorsement by WIN Belize, which has assisted citizens of the country from north, south, east and west is influenced because they received US grant monies. Your reporting has not said the same of many of the church organizations who oppose the policy, and yet they receive US funds as well. Accurate reporting requires truth, fairness and unbiased coverage, a mark which you have failed to reach in this article.

Belizeans don’t sell your soul for $200K!

  6. Jackie says:

exactly what I think-selling your souls and that of your children to the devil,.

God have mercy on our country

  7. Brightman says:

I find it so hypocritical that SOME, because there are tens of thousands in the churches who do NOT support the path of Belize Action, yes, that some church zealots are sooo worried about the soul of the nations ‘for sale’, when they themselves exist because of the donations, collections they have cajoled out of blind faithfuls–some poverty-stricken–with promises of heaven–THAT is the true crime!! Their pockets are also lined from churches abroad with their own dominionist agendas.
When virtually naked men and women are dancing on the streets for carnival, with children dancing in the most vulgar of manners–THAT is fine with the church, who line the streets with their families to watch…when ‘kotch’ competitions are being held, dances that degrade the value of the female person, where are they?? Why aren’t they actively manifesting against adulterers and the many fornicators in their congregations?? ….etc… Oh WAIT–they are the big money donors, paying their way to heaven, and in the case of the Roman Catholics, paying their way out of purgatory and paying for absolutions from priests, many of who are even more sinful than the common man…the hypocrisy has become astounding…

I find it very sad and it makes me angry that my government is trying to control the internal affairs of yours. It is totally against what we believe our country should be doing.

Perhaps, and this is just a suggestion here, perhaps Belize should make a law against political advocacy groups receiving money from foreign governments.

It is obvious that my government is threatening yours to change your internal policies as it relates to Homosexuals and people who want to be considered the opposite sex that they are. Secretary of State Clinton stated that quite clearly by even going beyond regular diplomatic practices by using the word “Must” instead of “Should” which would have been offensive enough but “Must” is a word that always has an implied threat that goes along with it.

Will the people of Belize allow the US Federal Government to dictate its affairs? I guess this is indeed a test of that.

  11. May says:

My government has threatened yours. Surely regardless of how one feels about LGBT issues the fact that the US has threatened Belize over this should be taken into consideration. If the international LGBT forces win the US Federal Government will feel like it can mess with your internal affairs whenever it wants to.

  12. Initiate says:

Sounds like Belize will loose with WIN Belize.

  13. May says:

“Your reporting has not said the same of many of the church organizations who oppose the policy, and yet they receive US funds as well.”

From the US government, concerned woman, or from individual US citizens?

The concern here is that the money was received from the United States Federal Government and after what Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said seems to point to the US government trying to direct the internal affairs of Belize.

Remember what she said while she was Secretary of State and therefore speaking as an agent of US policy. ” that governments like Belize must do everything.” She didn’t even say governments like Belize should which still would be interfering in the internal business of Belize. She used the word “Must” and in diplomatic circles using such a word is rare indeed as it implies a threat if such an ultimatum is not met.

  14. Unknown says:

Forget about the money for Sec and Think…..Putting the money aside is allowing this Inhumane thing really worth it???Come on think about the future. We are incharge in making a better future for the Young ones. And allowing this Demining Gender Policy is punishment to the kids of tommorrow. No to the Gender Policy!!!!

  15. May says:

This is MY tax dollars being used inappropriately in an attempt to direct the outcome of an internal cultural issue of Sovereign Nation. It wasn’t meant to be spent like this.

My country’s Federal Government is over 16 trillion in debt and while compared to that $200,000 dollars might seem insignificant it all does add up. But what is really important is that it is being used inappropriately. It is being in an attempt to promote the International LGBT agenda.

And if the US Federal Government wins on this there is no telling what they will ask Belize to do next as it relates what should be your own business.

By the way A bill passed this month in California that would make it a violation of state law to prevent K-12 schools from prohibiting a transgender students from using whichever bathroom they feel most comfortable using, The California Senate approved A.B. 1266 on July, 3rd 2013 in a 21-9 vote. The bill alters the state’s education code so that a student is “permitted to participate in sex-segregated school programs, and activities, including athletic teams and competitions, and use facilities consistent with his or her gender identity, irrespective of the gender listed on the pupil’s records.

So that’s the International LGBT agenda in action. And indeed if that is what the people of Belize want for their children then okay, it’s your society. But my tax dollars should not be used to threaten and bully you into this direction for your culture.

  17. Briightman says:

@ May…you are truly irresponsible and desperately trying to create fear!! People like you are dangerous! “Your country”–the US, as you claim, has threatened no one. The gender policy seeks to empower those very individuals who struggle with their identity to the point of questioning their very existence! Your solution is to push on them a God, who according to you will PUNISH them for being who they are.

It is people like you and ‘unknown’ who are the ones seeking after your own agenda and who are the true threat to progress and humanity living in peace and harmony, where people respect each other, not because they believe what YOU believe, but because they are humans worthy of love…the love YOU claim to be actin on, except that yours leaves much to be desired!!!!

  19. May says:

I am not pushing my agenda Brightman. I am just trying to clarify the implications of adopting the agenda of the International LBGT movement. One of the implications as the action in California clearly shows is that your daughter could be forced to use the same bathroom as a boy. And your son could be forced to us the same bathroom as a girl.

And if your society is okay with that, then fine, but my tax money should not be used to force that situation upon you.

Even if I was pushing my agenda, Brightman, I hardly have the resources and influence as the US Federal Government has. Resources and influence that I as a US citizen find as being totally ill appropriated.

In other news the same day did you read how the US government gave $30,000 to the Belize Disaster and Rescue Response, team (BDARRT.)? A team of volunteers will benefit from the training to strengthen their capacity to provide efficient services in times of disasters. I think this is great and a totally appropriate use of my tax money but it made me think only $30,000 for disaster training, when the US government gives $200,000 to try to influence the internal affairs of Belize as they relate to LGBT issues?

Just think how better off Belize would be if instead of $30,000 the US gave the $200,000 to BDARRT instead.

  20. May says:

Briightman I rarely hear the word “must” used in diplomatic circles and when it is used it is a serious situation indeed.

I would be offended if I was told by a foreign leader that my leaders “should” do something. I would be like who are you to tell my country what our leaders should or should not do in regards to an issue which is clearly our own internal business.

If a foreign leader used the word “must” I would be even all the more outraged. In the world of diplomacy “must” is a confrontational word.

What Hillary Clinton did was attack your sovereignty and your right as a people to dictate your own affairs. And given her position at that time as the one in the United States charged with US foreign affairs, such actions have a great impact. And she did it using my tax money.

Again if a foreign leader told my leaders they “must” do something I would be all like WE MUST? Or else? Stay away from our business!

Again I want to apologize to the citizens of Belize for my tax money being used to bully you like this. It is wrong. It is abuse of the power I have placed upon my leaders and an attack upon your sovereignty.

  21. May says:

Russia has this “Foreign Agents” law that might be something Belize could adapt to its own use in order to stop the US Federal government from dictating Belize’s domestic affairs.
