Final pre-game Report from Portland on Gold Cup 2013

In the next two hours, the Belize Jaguars will enter the Jeld-Wen Field in Portland for their highly anticipated game against the United States. Belizeans all over will be tuning in to the monster showdown.  It is the first time that Belize has qualified for the Gold Cup and that in itself is big and when they play tonight, the nation will be rooting for the national team. Across the City and elsewhere in the country, crowds will be congregating at many public places clinging to every second of the ninety-minute ballgame.  All that is happening shortly live right here on Channel Five.  Crowds are streaming into the Jeld-Wen Field in Portland, Oregon. And in Belize fans are preparing to watch the game at home or at sports bars. The live game which will be aired on Channel Five will be one of the most watched sporting events in the country. The time is drawing near for the coverage but before that starts, we go to Portland, where William Neal is following the team.

William Neal

“It is Tuesday afternoon and there is no masking the excitement that is building in front of the Jeld-Wen Field as fans from all four countries that will take to the pitch today are here to get in the line early. Today is a unique opportunity for team Belize to see our upcoming opponents take to the pitch as well. We have Costa Rica and Cuba, but executives, coaches and players have reassured us that team Belize is poised and ready for job one, team U.S.A.”

Ruperto Vicente

Ruperto Vicente, President, F.F.B.

“William it has been a wonderful feeling. The players are in excellent mood and I am happy for that. I spoke with them last night and this morning and I spent some time with them and they are in excellent mood. I also assured to them that the payments will be made to them, it is going to be there. I secured it for them. And I have to thank the prime minister for coming up with the extra funds to assist with the payment for our players.”

William Neal

“Now the team has been here for a couple of days. What have been the reports that you’ve gotten from your coaching staff?”

Ruperto Vicente

“Well the coaching staff, I have been getting regular reports from them and they have been informing me that the players are excited about playing against United States and there is only one objective and that is to beat the United States in tonight’s game. So they are excited about playing this game and making Belize proud. In talking to them this morning, the sense is that they are ready of this game and they don’t want to be distracted. They want to focus on the game for tonight.”

Shane Orio, Team Captain, Belize Jaguars

“The most important thing William dah fi make dehn enjoy it at the end of the day. We should go out and have fun, but we just have to be better than dehn guys Tuesday night and for ninety minutes. That dah only then we need fi be better than them because dah only then ih matters…when the game deh on.”

Member, Belize Jaguars

“I feel excited, can’t wait for the moment…well prepared. The team prepared and we ready for the battle.”

“Well I feel very confident. I support the team and mi teammates a lot. Very comfortable, like the feeling and hopefully we shock the world and the U.S. today.”

Ian Gaynair

Ian Gaynair, Midfielder, Belize Jaguars

“The only thing with the artificial turf, the ball move fast so we have to watch…always ready. Dehn wet the pitch so like when the ball di come out of the air and I skid. Other than that, my boots feel good, my foot feel good so nothing noh deh against me.”

Executive member, F.F.B.

“As we go deeper into the night, it is important for them to move around in their positions in the field and jog in place or do whatever they need to do to stay warm. Most of them do have under-armor gear and adequate clothing for the weather. And also the guys that will be on the bench will be warming up from time to time to keep warm.”

William Neal

“Now going up against the U.S., any nerves?’

Member, Belize Jaguars

“Yeah a little because you know you have to give them respect. They are a very big team, they have been playing well for the past few games and they are playing at home, so you have to be a little bit nervous. But all the training that we have been putting together, all the hard work… we are ready today.”

Deon McCauley

“Thanks for the support and those who deh out deh the support we. We hope that unu continue support we throughout the tournament. Dah noh only one game to play; we have two more games. Just stick with we and hope for the best.”

William Neal

Ian Mork, Head Coach, Belize jaguars

“The atmosphere is really positive. We have been working really hard to get to this point and now finally the players get a chance to really showcase their talent and we have an opportunity here to show the world what we can do and how we’ve improved over the years and ultimately try to advance in this tournament. It is not an easy task, but the players are up for it. There is good unity right now, they have good energy, they are well rested. So we are expecting a great match tonight.”

William Neal

“You’ve heard from the players, the executives and the coaches and team Belize is definitely ready for the game. In a couple of hours, it will all be history, but will it be historic for a David slaying Goliath kind of story? Tune in and of course make sure that you do whatever is necessary to push Belize over the edge. Positive vibes from all over the place, but reporting from Portland, this is William Neal for Channel Five’s coverage of Gold Cup 2013 brought to you through the courtesy of Delta, Keep on Climbing.”

I stayed up to watch the game eastern standard time, the jaguars suck. Their style of play is sophomoric. None of those guys could make a division 3 team. I am not trying to be hurtful, its just the truth. I am nationalistic but they suck, big time.. The game was like shooting fish in a glass bowl..defend defend defend, clog up the middle, eventually many goals will be scored… The mid field could not control the ball and their was no offense, that system of one man up front sucks. Every time the midfielders got the ball they turned it over. The defense couldn’t start any thing. One man cannot make a run by himself,, you need to open the game control the bal and attack from the wings. I love you all but you suck, None of you play international or have not idea about the dynamics of team work. Your only hope is kick and hope to catch a break and all of you were out of shape, by the end of the game oxygen was you only concern. Then you all have the nerve to demand big money. Oh and this foolishness about shaving points, what points, when you couldnt even score goals, maybe you could allow more goals but certainly couldn’t score more..There are many American beliszeans in club teams and US colleges, we need to recruit some ah dem boys. I saw nothing to impress me. No runs 3 shots to goal, and shae kick the ball out after being down by six no rsdon to stsy the plsy fro m the dfens, be patient contol the ball and pass it around then boom attacck from thre cornes. Raws, unu suck,
