From the streets come words of inspiration for Jaguars

Here in Belize, we caught up with fans of the Belize Jaguars. They expressed overwhelming support for the national team to beat the United States against all odds.

Joseph Lightfoot, Fan, Belize Jaguars

“I’m gonna surely be there at nine o’clock, so all you guys in Dangriga and everybody come forward, look at your TV…this will be a great game for all of us and it is also going to be a nice game. And we are also going to win because of excitement. So guarantee we will win.”

Duane Moody

“What’s your expectations for the game?”

Joseph Lightfoot

“Well a three to one game. Belize is going to win three to one; that’s what I expect.”

Kareem Hafiya, Fan, Belize Jaguars

“I am not quite a sport fanatic, but I most definitely will be supporting the Belize national team, one of my endeavors noh. And I believe every Belize individual suppose to support our team here and abroad.”

Duane Moody

“What message do you have for them over there?”

Kareem Hafiya

“Basically speaking, we are a very young team; therefore, we have been disrespected many years ago in all sports, all regions. So I feel this is an ample time now to make a different to prove to Belize and to themselves that we are capable here and abroad in the football league.”

Sandra Guzman, Fan, Belize Jaguars

“I di beet Belize wah win. I hundred percent that Belize wah win. I hundred percent support that.”

Duane Moody

“Belize jaguars are in the U.S.; they will be playing against the United States tonight at nine o’clock. Will you be supporting them?”

Sitara Usher, Fan, Belize Jaguars

“Yes I will. I hope they do well and everything goes well with all of them. I hope dehn win something and I just hope that everything okay.”

Shana Davis, Fan, Belize Jaguars

“Of course I wah support team Belize all the way.”

Duane Moody

“What are your expectations for the night?”

Shana Davis

“I hope dehn do good out there and I hope dehn win and prove to some Belizean people weh noh think dehn wah do good out there.”

Duane Moody

“What advice would you have for them?”

Shana Davis

“Noh feel no way. Just go out there and be confident in themselves and dehn know dehn wah do good.”

Sylvia Waight, Fan, Belize Jaguars

“By all means I’m gonna watch and I’m gonna be counting on our boys. I hope that they play with their hearts and they play for the flag…anything can happen in football. Look at what happened yesterday…Mexico was defeated by Panama; Martinique defeated Canada. And I would appeal to the public, do not refer to the U.S. team as a powerhouse because the U.S. is not a powerhouse in football. You want to speak about powerhouses in football: Brazil, Spain, Italy…but definitely not the U.S.  I am riding with our team, our Belizean team, and I hope that they win because they can win.”
