Slusher parts ways with F.F.B. after suspension
Late this evening, News Five spoke to Charlie Slusher who told us that he has been pulled from the trip because of the meetings held on Wednesday between the players, coaching staff and executive. According to Slusher, in those meetings he stood up for the players who were demanding that financial agreements be finalized before the trip. He is positive that his vocal stance regarding the money matters of the F.F.B. and the team earned him the axe on the Gold Cup trip. But with that said, Slusher confirmed that he is done with the F.F.B. for good.
Charlie Slusher, Suspended By F.F.B.
“There were several meetings between the players and the executive about making an agreement before they go to the UNCAF. Even the coaching staff wanted that to happen so that when we are over there the players are not focusing on the money and it’s just about playing the game. But I think what happened was yesterday when the guys were negotiating with the Senior Vice President Mr. Sergio Chuc they were saying that they have no money in the account and what they had was only fifty thousand dollars. So the guys were asking them what happened to all the money that you guys have been raising and they hear people have been contributing to the process. Well Mr. Chuc told him that they had to pay for bills that the Federation spent from a month or two months ago. What really made me get involved was when he told the team that they only had fifty thousand dollars left in the account and they had to use it to purchase I think about fifteen tickets for executive members and district chairmen to go on the trip. Today I still had a meeting with the President because he said that he would have talked to me today and he told me that I would not be going to the Gold Cup but he wants me to continue working with the federation and I told him that I’m very thankful for that but I want to thank you for the opportunity that I had to work with the federation because for me this is it for this present federation. I have no more interest in working under this present executive.”
Slusher also denies that he was out drinking with the players and he showed us a letter from the F.F.B., which he says he received last night placing him on suspension without pay, with immediate effect. The letter makes mention of behavior unbecoming a senior representative, with specific reference to Slusher sitting in the bleachers instead of on the team bench during a game, missing early morning training sessions and disrespecting members of the executive in Costa Rica.
it is so hard to understand hw our hard heart felt donations will be used to pay for 15 tickets for the administration to go on this trip.. and their girlfriends as well i believe since in san pedro i met marlon kuylen and i am sure that his hotel was sponsored by the football money.. football will go no where if the executives continue to live lavishly while the players are cheated out of what they work hard for. we donated to the players not to the executive.. let them pay their own fares and hotel if htey want to go… and let each player take one person instead… since there is so much money. i hate the misappropriation of fund. they are following chimilio all the way.. sad… i hope the players get their money and the executive stay home and watch on tv like the rest of us.
Let go of him no need for bad vibes on our team!
monies<<<<<<
it is believed that the main reason why businesses and govt are reluctant to donate towards the national team is precisely due to this issue of accountability. There were massive corruption issues in the past administration and it appears that the new Exec is heading in that direction……..when they see lotta money their eyes get big……..and what about the football players……should they say thanks just because of the fact that they will be bought a plane ticket and get to know the USA????
yea, let slusher go. he is getting advice from the past coach and he is running just like him. they want more money and want to make a negative impact on the team. always belizean when everything is running smooth, there has to come out someone with his none sense. what a disgrace. slusher is a leader and suppose to be giving examples, lack of discipline. hope the team put their mind on the game and just concentrate on it and leave problems behind. this can affect the team.
I would agree that the Belizean donated their dollars to the players not for the administration to waste on tickets because we want to see our national A team to perform at it’s best when going against the power house USA (they need to be focused). I know they will perform great and i believe they can accomplished their goal. GOOD LUCK AND WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I WOULD AGREE that the Belize-an donated the money for the players not for the administration because we want our players to be focused and play at its best against USA. but i know that they will play great and accomplish their goal. GOOD LUCK JAGUARS AND WIN!!!!!
The players need to first have the discipline to demand higher salaries. Taking the players out drinking just before an international trip was a very poor move regardless. If you as the coach does not have the discipline more so less would the players under your guidance. You need to step it up or step aside. If this is the way your feel then indeed it is better for you to step aside.
I don’t see the point of why everyone is pointing fingers at Mr. Slusher..the last time I checked the players were all over 18 years old..and I haven’t heard either that a gun was held to their heads and forced them to go drinking..so really they knew that they would be travelling and still made the decision to go drinking..people these days talk just for the sake of talking.
I met Charlies in Canada some years ago.. he was the goaile for Belize.. A great guy..and goalie. Will someone explain the financial arrangement with team members. As I understand it, international teams are given room and board and out of pocket expenses. They are not paid a salary. Most of them are honored to be chosen to represent their countries. The difference in Belize, I assume, is that the players have no other source of income while international players are well paid by their professional individual contracts with professional teams. In Belize, “Cho!! you have to pay me to represent”. No money no deh.
slusher gave all his time an effort over at least the past 3 months preparing our team for the gold cup an to cut him off right before they leave is totally unfair.especially if he was fighting for the players.this is what happens when u go against the big wigs.shame on the ffb.chimilio the return?????
The issues with charlie could have been resolved after the team returned from the games. Bet the other team members were not happy about that decision. All of this affects the team in a negative way
