Foreign plane in Belizean airspace

Tonight, there are persistent, but unofficial reports that planes believed to be Mexican military aircrafts were in Belizean airspace on Sunday. News Five has been told that the planes were picked up by radar, but the pilots refused to respond to communications and requests for identification. Today, News Five contacted the control tower and were told that only the Director of Civil Aviation would be able to speak on the matter. When we contacted Director, Lindsay Garbutt, he refused comment, stating that he would not confirm or deny that there were Mexican military planes in Belizean airspace.

well we saw it hover over spanish lookout while being in that area on friday two of them. So it is strange to the public how can foreign planes fly and nothing is done even if the usual “an investigation is going on” keeps the public anxious to know the real truth. it clearly shows the lack of national security that we Belizeans suffer.
Hope John Saldivar has some word for the public as how he plans to take this matter serious. Also in the same area of SPL a big plane cargo like in blue color was flying very low thursday evening around 4pm, an unusual case since no planes of that size flies over that area worst that altitude and more over a four engine with that size we don’t see it regularly flying that low. seems like even this case were not even mentions to the public by the civil aviation of Belize.
damn!!! so much things going on where is the minister of national security? can someone tell him to man up and say something or do something.

Sunday morning between 9:30 and 10:00 one of them flew over the Caye Caulker lobster fest heading North-East out to sea, so there are thousands of witnesses! My 3 year old loves airplanes so this one caught our attention as usual, and indeed it was a foreign plane – it was unlike anything Belize is know to have.

  5. Alej says:

I saw these planes on Friday while traveling from Belize City to Cayo. It was around 3:30 went the bus was passing by United Ville in the Cayo District that i saw the plane flying very low.

  6. Pelican says:

The same same two flew low over Gallon Jug on Friday afternoon around 3:45 circled around then flew back towards the west.
Look very much like the ones Guatemala required, oh wait … can’t be them Guatemala says they don’t have them yet ….yeah right.
So Mr. Minister National Security with all these sightings, who do they belong to?

  8. Al says:

Every country is realizing how weak and unprotected Belize is as a country. The Mexican government is showing just how low they think of Belize. They are showing what they can do and suffer no consequences. Belize is the only country that this can be done to and there is no call for explanation from the government or no warning issued to Mexico.

What a poor excuse for politicians and government. Belize people you are not safe, you could wake up one day and be occupied by a foreign government.

  9. Proud 2b Belizean says:

Rumor has it that two of these airplanes circled a Mennonite farmer flying his Cessna 172 over Yalbac Ranch area. He tried making contact with them with no response. They kept on his wings until he landed his plane in Spanish Lookout where they circled overhead for quite a while. When he contacted the control tower they said they were in search of a Mexican Cessna 172. Our country is the only country where you can fly into, terrorize and put our pilots in danger, and get away with it no questions asked.

Military information should not be discuss on media

  11. Gary says:

My fellow Belizeans, we need to petition for Belize to become a British Overseas Territory just like Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, and British Virgin Islands.

We need the protection of the British. We have experimented with “independence,” and it is not working for us. There is no shame in this. If we become a British Overseas Territory, no foreign power would threaten our territorial integrity or invade our air space. I can assure you of this.

The British National Anthem — our former anthem before 1981 — makes clear this message: “God save our gracious Queen! Long live our noble Queen! Send her victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us, God save the Queen.”

The Belizean people are a great people. Together with the British, we can restore greatness to this country. Long Live Belize! Long Live British Honduras!

  12. Texan says:

    Gary,

You’re a coward, and most Belizean are coward. People like you would worship the white man all your life, standing up for what is yours. In Texas we have a rule, if a man comes in your house, he is a dead man. Belizean must start think the same. It’s your land protect it, don’t wait for someone else to come and do it for you. Give up our independence, what a dum-A
