Restaurant staff to build home for battered women

Story PictureThis weekend, employees of one Belize City restaurant will be investing some sweat equity for the construction of a home for battered and abused women. According to Harbour View manager Michelle Williams, every year she and her staff have made it a tradition to contribute to a worthy cause.

?Every year we celebrate our anniversary by doing a charity function, and we give it to different charity. This year we did it for Hand in Hand Ministries. During the month of May there were a lot of activities going on as far as charities were concern. So what my staff and I came up with was we were just going to give whatever night earnings we got totally to Hand in Hand Ministry for the building of a home. Lucky that night we did very well and were able to come up with the total amount to build that home. And after the fact, one of my staff said, seeing that we have raised the money for the home we would like to be a part of building the home. This Saturday the majority of my staff and myself will be going to a location and will be constructing a transition home for abused women along with volunteers and staff of Hand in Hand Ministries.?

Bernard Panton, Assistant Hand in Hand Ministries
?This time of the year when it is raining we don?t do much building so we don?t have the construction manager and his assistant working. So with Michelle and her crew coming on that will be a lot of help for us, and a big help so that the house can be finished at least a day earlier. We hope that other people will see this kind of gesture and jump on the wagon so we could help more needy people.?

The location of the transition home has to be kept secret for security reasons but if you would like to donate time or money to Hand in Hand Ministries, please contact Bernard Panton at 227-6273.
