Salvadoran national knocked down and killed in Belmopan
Just minutes after forty-three year old Isabel Antonio Ballona was being killed by armed robbers at the La Choza del Cabrito Bar, another Salvadoran national also lost his life when he was knocked down and killed a mile away. Sometime around twelve-thirty on Sunday morning, Belmopan Police found the body of thirty-two year old Mario Ortega Dominguez, a naturalized Belizean of Young Bank area, Camalote Village. Dominguez received severe head and body injuries in front of the Agriculture and Trade Show Grounds on the Hummingbird Highway in Belmopan City. Initial investigations reveal that Dominguez was hit from behind while riding his blue mountain bike; seventy-five feet away the bicycle was seen with a broken handle and rear wheel. News Five spoke with Officer Commanding the Belmopan Formation, Assistant Superintendent Sinquest Martinez who said that the department needs the public’s assistance in solving this case of hit and run.

“We had a fatal hit and run traffic accident that occurred basically around the same time the incident happened at the establishment. The person has been identified as Mario Ortega, a Salvadoran, living at Young Bank [area], Camalote Village. Earlier, he was with his family and friends at an establishment where they were playing some football and he was on his way to Belmopan City when unfortunately he was hit by a vehicle heading towards the direction of Belmopan. He died on the spot. And I’m just asking the public, whosoever have any information pertaining to the accident to kindly assist us. We don’t have any leads so far pertaining to that at this present moment. But I have my officers likewise hunting for the vehicle.”
There are no arrests so far in the hit and run accident and police have very few leads to go on.Email This Story
