Guatemala newspaper alleges Belize immigration disrespects their passport

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belize and Guatemala are scheduled to meet in Antigua, Guatemala next week in the margins of the O.A.S. General Assembly. And tonight, there is still no response from Guatemala’s cabinet regarding a possible date for a joint referendum to be held in 2014. However, Guatemala has produced a passport that shows a dotted line along the border with Belize, rather than a full block line as it does with other countries. The Guatemalan newspaper Siglo21 has alleged that citizens of that country have encountered problems when coming to Belize. Since April, a batch of six hundred thousand passports with the dotted line has been printed at the cost of twenty-six million quetzales. Alvaro Trujillo, of Renewed Democratic Freedom Party, told the newspaper that he has received reports that in the Peten area, people have suffered harassment by immigration officials when the passports are handed over to the Belizean authorities. The article alleges that the passports are intentionally damaged by authorities in Belize.  A Guatemalan immigration department spokesman, Fernando Lucero, acknowledged that there is such a problem. Guatemala’s Foreign Ministry was unable to comment on the allegations.

For those guatemalans that want to cross, let them draw a solid line on the passport before they can enter. don’t you think?

  2. Belizean says:

Well I would harass them as much as possible!! Simply refuse to accept the passports!! Easy as that! We dont recognize countries that dont accept Belize as a SOVEREIGN country. Come on, its in the constitution!!!

  6. John Doe says:

Good job…I am proud of our immigration officers for making a bold statement.

Belize is sovereign and if Guatemala doesn’t want to respect it by retracting such offensive passport, then refuse entry to its people who carry them.

  7. John Doe says:

How about us telling the newspaper, the Guatemalan people and Government that their passport disrespects our country, our sovereignty?

What is more important, their passport or our country? I saw deny access left right and center to all Guatemalan’s visiting with the offensive passport especially if they are officials.

I quote and translate the words of Tito Arias, now Otto Perez Molina, the murderer of harmless children, defenseless women, feeble old men and unarmed young men: MEANWHILE THERE IS NO MODIFICATION TO WHAT WE HAVE MANIFESTED PUT US AT DISADVANTAGE, A DATE CANNOT BE SET. (Prensa Libre, May 16, 2013). The article continues, ….BUT PEREZ MOLINA SAID THERE WAS NO SPECIFIC TIME TO PROGRAMME IT. Wilfred is dreaming of a white 2014 referendum. Man, wake up to the real world and smell the coffee.

  9. KOLM says:

Guats, producing this passport as an official travel document is harassment and an indirect declaration to invade and conquer Belize. Belize, it time to focus on strengthening international relationships, and invest in the military and border patrols.

I was born and raised in Belize. In school (Eben, and L.I. Methodist), we learned that Belize is a Central American country. I later learned from citizens/natives of some Central American countries that THEY teach their children that the regions consist of all existing C.A. countries EXCEPT Belize. (This is not new information)

I agree. Any Guatemalan entering Belize with this passport should be denied entry.

  12. Storm says:

Which is worse, disrespecting their passport, or disrespecting our border?

I really Belize we should refuse entry for anyone with those offensive passports. Personally, I could do without the Guats altogether — I consider them invaders amongst us.

  13. orangewalkeno says:

the cowardly udp govt. has to openly condemn that unacceptable passport and refuse entry into our sovereign nation to anyone carrying that passport. The rest of patriotic Belizeans will take no less.Place an official notice at every official entry point in the country so that the message is loud and clear.
