Seine Bight Village Councilor tells cops she wants back her pickup truck

And though the troubles of one Seine Bight resident do not involve capital punishment, she’s still screaming bloody murder. Recently, Lavern Arzu was elected to be  part of the Seine Bight Village Council, but the hard working woman says she’s been offended and wronged by the police department in her municipality. Arzu alleges the cops have been seizing assets of residents, including hers, without cause. That is why she made an official complaint to the Police Headquarters in Belmopan and to News 5 in Belize City this afternoon.

Lavern Arzu, Councilor, Seine Bight Village

“I’m a councilor; I won the other day against those who were vying for the village council elections the other day and all of our slate succeeded. We want our vehicle back and all the stuff that they take away from people for no reason. They walk into so much people house the other day—that dah about four months or soh now—and just take away people vehicle. I think dehn have about four to five or six more vehicles at the compound in Belmopan right now at the Ministry of National Security. Sun come, rain come and beat it. We need wi vehicle because that dah fi we livelihood. Dehn even also take away people window, dehn machine, dehn boat, dehn motorcycle and we noh di hear nothing.”

Jose Sanchez

“Is it possible maybe that it could have been stolen items or have you asked the police for explanation why those items were taken?”

Lavern Arzu

“Well personally, I asked Mister Flowers why he take away my vehicle. All he told me was that if hemi know that dah mi fi me, he wouldn’t ah mi wah take away my vehicle. When he gone to take away my vehicle, he gone fi search my sister house, but apparently he find my bredda—because we di build wah construction ina the yard—he find my bredda and he di tell my bredda dah fi who this vehicle, I know dah fi you. Ih noh di ask ahn dah fi who; ih di tell ahn to the face that dah fi he di vehicle. And mi bredda tell ahn, you know dah fi who di vehicle? Ih deh ina di owner yard. It was in my yard and my yard separate from my sister yard. He just walk in and just beat up fi he nephew, shake up my son; wah beat up my son and then dah so my son actually give the key for the vehicle.”

Jose Sanchez

“Did they give you some documents saying why they have your vehicle?”

Lavern Arzu

“Dehn don’t even give me a documents. When I talk to my lawyer, my lawyer said okay, dehn di suspect me of money laundering. But I noh know why dehn di suspect me of money laundering because dehn noh see nothing with me and dehn noh see anything fancy with me. I struggle hard fi my life and everybody dah Seine Bight see that I really struggle for my life.”

Arzu says she wants the police department to return her 1997 red Ford Ranger as soon as possible because she needs it to move around the village.

I find it extremely odd, that the FIU (financial intelligence unit) would bypass all the graft and corruption that takes place right under their noses in Belize City, Belmopan and points in between and go all the way to Seine Bight to harass some Garifuna people.
Is this racial profiling or what? Or did the OIC not get what he thought should have been HIS, cut? This smells fishy to me.
Somebody needs to investigate the investigators as well.

  2. sickntired says:

But da weh wrong with this UDP lady di grumble about fi she same UDP govt? Left that to other people fi grumble. If you lay down with dog expect to catch fleas – why you di grumble now? Vote them and youself out next time.

  3. Louisville,Ky says:

Something cross thread when the FIU is singling out the residents of Seine Bight for money laundering. I think somebody didn’t get his cut or it’s down right racist on the part of the authorities. Plain and simple.

  4. venus says:

Poor malnourish people should not be able to afford vehicle, but the informal market should be able to carry on business as usual. FIU should have started by confiscating the property of Cabinet members first.

  5. Joe Lopez says:

Stupid police officers’ who’s ever incharge of that municipality need to be removed! He is an idiot! Shame on him…
