Another man arraigned for Corozal kidnapping

Bernabel Pena

A second man has been charged in the kidnapping case up north in Corozal Town. Thirty-six year old Bernabel Pena now joins thirty-two year old Thomas Villanueva who was charged last Thursday in connection with the abduction of two year old Ivy Yang on March twenty-fifth. Several persons were initially detained and released but only Pena and Villanueva have been charged with Kidnapping. It is believed the two held up Mei Tang Chen, the toddler’s mother, as she headed home to the Santa Rita Heights area of Corozal town. Two vehicles boxed in Chen from the front and back and after taking baby Ivy, the men demanded a ransom of close to a million dollars. Overnight, however, a suspicious relative of one of the accused took the baby to the Corozal Police. Pena was remanded this afternoon and is to return to court along with Villanueva on April thirtieth.
