Court of Appeal opened; 2 murder cases heard

Nelson Gibson

The Court of Appeal opened on Tuesday, presiding is President, Justice, Manuel Sosa. Two cases were heard on the first day of this session. Twenty-three year old Nelson Gibson, who was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment, appeared before the court; his case was heard expeditiously and a ruling has been set aside.  According to the prosecution’s evidence, in February of 2008, in Cotton Tree, Cayo District, while executing a robbery at the grocery shop of Horacio Sanabria, Gibson shot and killed Myrna Sanabria and in August of 2012 he was convicted of her murder.  His attorney Simeon Sampson presented several grounds of appeal including one saying that the trial judge erred in law when he rejected the “no case” submission at trial in the Supreme Court.

Darrell Grant

In the afternoon, the appeal of Darrell Grant was heard. He was also convicted for murder. In November 2010, Justice Adolph Lucas sentenced Grant to life imprisonment for the murder of Sandra Ruiz, who was killed back in August of 2008. The King’s Park resident was inside her home when he was attacked in front of her children. She suffered a fractured skull, jaw, chest and ribs when she was attacked with a hammer. She was additionally raped in the home invasion.  Grant’s case was adjourned for next week at the request of his attorney, Kevin Arthurs. There are five judges sitting in the court of appeal. Aside from the president, Justices Samuel Awich, Douglas Mendes, Minnett ?? Hafiz-Bertram and Dennis Morrison are sitting during this session.

  2. Storm says:

A jury found enough evidence to convict Gibson beyond a reasonable doubt of murder, so the “no case” submission sounds frivolous.

Murderers should die, no mercy, no exceptions.
