APAMO supports UB Board in waiting for complete audit

Selwyn King

The release from the Board of Trustees further stated that the unsupported statements and criticisms directed towards them may have been an attempt to deter the board from acting in the best interest of the university.

“We have always said and I’ve indicated that universities throughout the world have always provided the space to allow voices to be heard.  We all have different points of views and the university has served that purpose, that’s providing that space.  The students who protest protested their increase, nonetheless, that was a decision that was taken in 2006/2007.  The faculty is now voicing their opinions and they have their democratic right and at the end of the day sometimes it has been said that when there are differences in points of views it brings you together in terms of sitting around one table to discuss the issues face to face and to see how best we can move forward.  The University of Belize will always be here.  It’s bigger than any one individual or individuals, it will always be here and all stakeholders have to be cognizant of that fact out there.  So we look forward that at the end of the day, very shortly, that things will work itself out and we’ll all communicate.”

News Five understands that the executives of the UB Faculty and Staff Association met in Belize City this afternoon to discuss the way forward.  The Board of Trustees is also scheduled to meet with Minister of Education Patrick Faber in an effort to resolve the situation.  Meanwhile, the Association of Protected Areas Management Organization, which is represented on the UB Board, also issued a release today supporting the position taken by the chair and the Board of Trustees.  APAMO’s release goes on to say, quote, “In the issues raised by Mrs. Allison Crawford, it is our understanding that the audit report is incomplete and will soon be completed by an independent, objective, and respectable audit firm.  APAMO therefore considers the allegations of Mrs. Crawford to be premature as the independent audit has not yet been completed and tabled to the Board of Trustees.” unquote.

Is Selwyn King the long-lost twin brother of our beloved PM? They look so.

Whatever crooked activity has occurred with UB money happened at a high level, like the Board itself. Apamo is on the board, and wants to keep the books hidden longer — how do we know that Apamo has clean hands in this, siding with the thieves?

We need sunlight on what happened to the public money, maybe millions stolen, and we need FIU or some law enforcement to clap the thieves into jail.

I’m mad, we have little enough money to educate Belizeans, and that little is being stolen. So is the future of the country being stolen.

Storm, if the president of the board commissioned the audit, and the Board can’t touch funds at UB because the Board deals with policies only. so you’re comments are inaccurate. So you are saying that they shouldn’t finish the audit and just fire the Human Resources dept. on a half audit?
