Guilty of hiring foreigners without work permits

Dora Licia de Maria Prado

Two naturalized Belizeans are facing charges of employing persons without a valid work permit. Fifty-three year old Dora Licia de Maria Prado, a resident of Ladyville and also owner of Dora Noa Noa Bar located on the Phillip Goldson Highway was accused of employing three Guatemalan nationals without a work permit. Prada appeared before Magistrate Adolph Lucas, pleaded not guilty and was offered bail of one thousand dollar plus surety of the same amount and the case was adjourned until February twentieth 2013. The second person to be charged for the same offense was forty-seven year old contractor, Jose David Linares. Linares is also accused of hiring a Guatemalan national without a valid permit to work at one of his construction sites. According to immigration officers, while doing a routine check on the old airport road on Wednesday, they came across a group of men engaged in construction work.  But they could not produce valid documents to the immigration officers and were taken into custody. In court, Magistrate Lucas offered him a one thousand dollar bail to be paid by April thirteenth 2013 or in default one year in prison.

The Statistics Institute just reported we have 16.1% unemployment — WHY DO THEY NEED TO BRING IN ILLEGAL FOREIGNERS TO STEAL OUR JOBS? Belizeans need to work. If I were the judge, these people would do the most jail time I could give them.

Thanks to the law enforcement for making these arrests. Let’s see what happens.

    Come on Bear,

I’ve been working in a company back in the south……and city of belize.
to tell you the truth our belizean people don’t want to work hard like in construction….so many jobb opportunities and they reject the job offer….its a pitty the outsiders have to take that place.

  5. TANYA says:

i totallly agree.. belizeans do not want to work.. Very irresponsible and do not want to work for 200 0r $250 a week and veeeerrrryyyy complicated especiallly in belize city… its a real problem that as an economy in terms of skillled labor and attiitude affects investment and our economy. oour labour force needs help badlly starting with atttitude and responsibility. SORRY BUT ITS THE TRUTH..

  6. Belizeans lazy to do what immigrats do says:

The Belize companies needs to look for foreigners because most belizeans are lazy to do what
is required of them, they expect to get paid a hired a price,it’s complicated you always need to be behind them, so they get things done. Foreigners work for a bit money and they do a great job. There is a lot of Job opportunities, if we belizeans were more creative, but most people expect government to do a change, but we as society need to make our change, we need to look beyond our noses and have a business mentality.

    ummmmm……..
    Belizeans lazy & thief.

and sorry to stereotype but if we had a choice to choose between the salvadoran with no knowledge of construction and a Belizean with no knowledge of construction….75% of people would trust the immigrant than their own countrymen.
