Love is in the air on Valentine’s Day

Commerce normally picks up for most businesses at Christmas time, but Valentine’s Day is almost an exclusive economic season for florists.  And across the City today, the hustle and bustle of cash for symbols of affection was blooming in red.  Some were looking for chocolates and sweets and others for stemmed roses. News Five’s Carla Bradley went to the downtown area today where affection wafted in the air and found out from city residents, like the Bee Gee’s song, how deep was their love.

Valentine’s is celebrated throughout the world and even though some women and men believe that love should be shown throughout the year; there are still some women hoping that they will receive at least one rose, or a teddy bear on this special day. So whether your preference maybe a teddy bear surrounded by chocolates, or an arrangement of flowers or even just a romantic dinner at home.

 

Resident # 1

“I would like to say happy valentine to all the ladies; to my mother, to my family, to everyone. To all the ladies in Belize City; everyone visiting our beautiful country; have a nice time.”

 

Resident #2

“Well I’ll love to send a shout out to my wife, my wife and my kids, my boy and my lil’ girl. Well I plan for get her nice valentine. Either eat out or something but I’ll give her a present. We have been together twenty six years. Thank you very much.”

 

Resident #3

“My ma and my bredda. Today dah my bredda birthday, so I wah seh happy birthday Jeff. And to Ms. Pauline and everyone back in Corozal, my home town.”

 

Resident #4

“Well mi ma, mi pa, mi whole entire family, all ah Belize sending the love; Mih girlfriend.”

“Sweets, chocolate, teddy bears, some rose.”

“So what advice you have for those guys who can’t find a gift for that special someone?”

 

Resident #5

“Just give ah love, simple as that. It noh have to be anything special just show that you love ah and care for ah.”

 

Flower shops experienced a spike in sales as many were rushing to buy last minute gifts for their loved ones. It was like cupid’s helpers rather than Santa’s elves.

“Well it’s been very good. I haven’t slept from last night. I haven’t slept since four o’clock the day before so it’s been pretty good.”

“How many arrangements you said you’ve sold since this morning?”

 

Judy Mahler

“More than a hundred. Gift baskets, you name we have it and it’s all sold. Everything is sold out.  I love you Steve.”
