Boat captain acquitted of rape

Carlos Matura

Forty-one year old Carlos Matura, a Dive Master and Boat Captain of Belize City, was acquitted of a rape charge when he appeared before Justice Troadio Gonzalez this morning. Two witnesses had already been called to testify by prosecutor Leroy Banner, but the case fell apart when the complainant informed the court that she did not wish to proceed with the trial. Matura was accused of allegedly raping the twenty-nine year old mother of three in January of 2012 at her home. At the time, Matura was accused of forcing his way into her house, holding the mother at knife point and then raping her. She had also complained that Matura slept next to her after the incident and left early the following morning.

Sounds too fishy to me. What induced her to change her mind?

The people of the nation are NOT served or protected by this result. If he raped her, he should have been convicted, imprisoned, and castrated so he could not hurt another female.

The wooman is telling the truth he did because i saw him left the house early that day so i went and talked to the victim.

Another outlet reports that the victim told the court that he did rape her, but she didn’t want to pursue the case. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE. If our law cannot force a witness to testify, they need to be changed to permit that. It is not the victim alone that the criminal system is set to protect, but the entire nation — her personal decision [was she bribed to drop the case? My guess is yes!] should not control the outcome of a case of the sovereign against a criminal. so now we have a rapist walking the streets, waiting to strike again.

The neighbors of Carlos Matura should organize patrols to watch him 24/7, every second he is on land. Don’t let him rape your wife or daughter or mother next! And if they catch him attacking a woman, cut off his b—s!

Belize law permits us to patrol our own communities, and to make CITIZEN’S ARRESTS when we catch a criminal. Let’s use the law to protect our families!
