Are U.D.P. delegates coerced to vote for Vega?

The United Democratic Party will hold its National Convention on Sunday, February seventeenth, and all eyes are on the prize of first Deputy Leader of the party. The incumbent is Gaspar Vega, who is considered a party heavyweight in the north. He is being challenged by current U.D.P. Chairman, Patrick Faber, who is considered a party mover and shaker in the city. Two weeks ago, Prime Minister Dean Barrow stated publicly that he supports Vega, but Faber shook off that snub and the campaign has been fierce. Today, word spread that the Prime Minister was holding meetings with U.D.P. delegates who will be voting at the convention. Delegates from Dangriga including former U.D.P. Mayor, Frank ‘Pawpa’ Mena, were waiting for their ride. We understand that those delegates were being asked to give their support to Vega, but we were unable to verify that before news time tonight.

It would be good to get an explanation why this is necessary at this time. If the boat gets rocked how will it make a change in the way the udp govt functions? The incumbent could very well remain deputy pm so what is the purpose of all this turmoil?

  2. Belizean says:

Well, all I can say is my support is for Vega! And if they have these meetings, in support
for him, thats a good move..Vega is wise, Faber is smart…smart without wise, NONESENSE

I don’t know how any patriotic Belizean can stand to watch Gapi PROUDLY AND BOLDLY AND SHAMELESSLY rape the nation, its land, and its resources, and support him for anything except a position in steel bracelets in Kolbeville.

I guess his petty bribes to the constituents are enough for them to vote to sell out their countrymen, like Judas sold out the Savior.

well i dont imagin an illiterate person like Mr. Vega as our future PM. haha that must be a joke…. only and educated and well educated person can lead a country, so if he does win, we should see to what extent the corruption reachesin this country. he is just deputy prime minister and he already exported enough rosewood to pay off al the debts belize has in money value…. stupid people, that man is squeezing every thing he can to get richer and richer

Coco, there are bad men and good men of every skin color. God never differentiates.

We need the races uniting to build the best future possible for the Jewel. Separately, we are weak like the five separate fingers of your hand, and we will never get anything good accomplished. But if you unite the fingers (races) and close them into a fist, we will be strong.

    Both are useless!!!
