B.D.F. invites public to its Open Day

As part of its thirty-fifth anniversary, the B.D.F. is having its annual Open Day this Saturday at Price Barracks. Held under the theme, “Discipline Patriots serving with pride and integrity,” the event is for the entire family. The activities include a bash with Tagg International and artist, Sweet Pain. Pilot at the Force, Adran Ramirez, who is also one of the organizers for the event, stopped by News Five’s studios and invited everyone to come out.

“You can expect displays, martial arts, physical training, you can expect an attack; you can expect fun and games throughout the day. There is food, drinks, stalls, games for the kids and een games for the adults. Prizes from kids to adults—male and female. There will be clothes out there, we are talking jeans; where else can you get jeans for ten bills. We are talking five dollars for a polo shirt. We’re looking at a range of activities: bouncy castle, games, a little swimming pool area. There is also parachuting happening at eleven thirty and one in the afternoon. There is also a live performance from the YoungStarr Entertainment Crew which is an up and coming Belizean entertainment guys. And they will be doing a performance at ten-thirty and another one at four o’clock in the afternoon. That is then followed by after the day’s activities by Sweet Pain and Tagg International from seven o’clock the night to two o’clock in the morning. What we try to do is get the general public to see what we do as the B.D.F.—not just what is being portrayed. What you’ll see out there is hard work and what we have been trained to do. And we also have the play side of us. We are not just soldiers, we are also family members. We are trained discipline personnel. That’s why we have the theme; “Discipline Patriots serving with pride and integrity.”

Ramirez says that there will be free transport from the Pound Yard to Price Barracks throughout the day. The gates open at nine a.m. and entrance to the compound is only one dollar. That fee entitles you to a chance in winning one of many prizes that will be raffled every hour.
