Job opportunities available for Belizeans in Canada

Late last year, the Actyle Group, a Saskatchewan-based recruitment firm, recruited hundreds of Belizean to take up jobs with a number of businesses such as McDonalds in Canada. This week, the recruiting company was back in Belize, but this time they headed over to Belmopan where they held three days of interviews with graduates and prospective graduates at the University of Belize Auditorium as well as at the Actyl Canada Office. Actyl is looking for persons to take up jobs as welders, heavy duty mechanics and tire technicians. On the first day of the interviews, over one hundred and fifty people showed up and that trend continued through today when the group wrapped up interviews.

Fresh out of UB and straight into the working class in Canada…its sad to see our future working class youths opting out on their contribution to the future development of our home country just to benefit another country abroad..I dont blame these Belizeans one bit tho…sooner or later Belize will loose out on the majority of the young working class by foreign companties coming to snatch up young skilled workers…2 to 4 years at UB for a degree and still you cant find a job…our Government’s lacks the initiative and the ability to create decent jobs in our country…i wish them luck and success in Canada, they are offering plenty more than our country or government ever could…sad but such is life..

Belize have all the necessary trained and tallented people, and the natural resorces needed to progress and be a place where people would envy to live. Our main problem is the lack of leadership by the electorate.

We do not have to keep making the mistakes others have already made as if we are expecting a different result!

More tallented Belizeans will continue to migrate if the government does use their skills. We promote the politically connected instead of our best.

What is happening here is what has happened to many Caribbean States where Canada or the US recruits their trained people- in short it is a brain drain where they take the brightest and the best. For a long time we have been overlooked by the recruiters- but they are realizing what a potential gold mine this is, relatively docile, literate, English speaking and eager set of people. Next it will be our trained teachers, nurses etc…

It is a shame because we are blessed with resources, a modestly educated set of people and yet we are struggling with high rates of unemployment and a bleak future for our graduates. This governemnt can do better….i just hope that we check ourself before it is too late.
