Finnegan says Faber suited to steer U.D.P.

Patrick Faber

While the Prime Minister supports Vega other heavy weights in the U.D.P. are coming out in support of Faber. Former Prime Minister, Manuel Esquivel, Dean Lindo and others are safely in Faber’s corner. Today Mesopotamia area representative Michael Finnegan, never one to mince words, placed on record his unwavering support for Faber. Finnegan held a session with reporters during which he explained the prime minister’s choice to endorse current deputy leader Gaspar Vega.  While refuting claims that the upcoming political race is dividing the ruling party, Finnegan maintains that he shares a fruitful relationship with Vega; however, he believes that Faber is best suited to assist with steering the U.D.P. forward.

Michael Finnegan, Area Representative, Mesopotamia

“I am a mature politician and I am supporting Mr. Faber and I will do whatever within the laws and the regulations of the U.D.P. to see Mr. Faber through, to see Mr. Faber victorious.  But my delegates, Mr. Vega will have a chance to talk to my delegates and woo and ask them for their support and I will set up that meeting so that Mr. Vega can have an opportunity to talk with the delegates from my division.  I feel like that is the democracy that we need.  But my delegates and I are so close and I have been there with them for the last thirty, thirty-five years [that] I want to believe that they will support who I am supporting.  I support Mr. Faber and I support Mr. Faber with every bone I have in my body but Mr. Vega and I are [extremely close].  We work together closely good.  I like Mr. Vega.  Mr. Vega has a charm and a personality that is irresistible but I like Mr. Faber because I believe that Mr. Faber has the more wherewithal, the more ability to assist the party leader in moving this party forward and in moving the government forward.  But nothing is wrong with Mr. Vega and if Mr. Vega is re-elected as the deputy leader of the party nothing is wrong with that.  But there is no hatred or no malice or no confusion in the organization because the two men are vying for this position. The U.D.P. is not a monolithic organization and that is why you see that people in the party, high up in the party are supporting whosoever they want and the prime minister as leader of the party has a right to support who he wants and nothing is wrong with that.  And I have a right to support who I want and nothing is wrong with that.”

Isani Cayetano

“Do you believe that the party leader, being the most influential, will have some impact on what transpires hereafter, in terms of the actual election for deputy [leader]?”

Michael Finnegan

“Of course the party leader will have a great impact but I will also have an impact, so does John Saldivar, so does [Pablo] Marin from Corozal, so that does the representative from Cayo.  We all will have an impact, who will have the most impact at the end of the day you will all know.”

For perspective we not that the PM came out publicly in support of Chandra Cansino who was defeated by Santiago Castillo, and for Anthony Michael who was also defeated Zenaida Moya. So for now the race is on for who will be the next U.D.P. Deputy Party Leader come February seventeenth.

  2. b.Jones says:

If He can’t get it right when it comes to doing the right thing & discipline his brother for drunkly wrecking the people of Belize Vehicle, how can he possibly lead a country.

  3. Storm says:

b.Jones is right, Faber MUST do the right thing IMMEDIATELY regarding the scandal resulting from him letting his drunken brother joyride in Faber’s government vehicle, resulting in its destruction. right now Faber looks as bad as Vega, who brags about using his position for personal financial gain.

If Faber wants to own the high road in the campaign, he needs to put things right with his vehicle or he is just another version of a thief. Most of us are very tired of that scenario, and are looking for new and honest leaders.
