Woman to soon find out fate for burning house

Keisha Banner

A jury of nine stepped into the deliberating room this afternoon to determine the fate of twenty four year old Keisha Banner, a resident of Belize City accused of burning down her boyfriend’s house located on Vernon Street on January thirtieth 2011. Banner’s trial began last Wednesday, in the Supreme Court before Justice Troadio Gonzalez and ended with a guilty verdict for Banner. Five witnesses were called to testify including her boyfriend, Dishon Rowland, as well as officials who responded to the scene of the crime. Rowland testified that on the day his house was destroyed by fire, he was involved in an argument with Banner and decided to leave the house. He also said he saw a bottle of fuel on the kitchen cabinet and that he moved it. According to Rowland just minutes after leaving, he was notified that the house was up in flames. Witness, Carla Flowers told the court that prior to the fire, she had given Banner a box of matches and that within minutes, she saw smoke coming out of the rear entrance of the house while Banner got into a waiting van and left. In her defense, Banner gave a sworn testimony that on the day of the fire, an argument had ensued with Rowland and that he slammed the door on her hand when she was trying to prevent him from leaving the house. She then called her mother to pick her up and they went to the Central Prison to visit a sick uncle. Banner was picked up by police at two a.m. on January thirty-first at her mother’s house. Rowland tried to withdraw the charges when he found out that Banner was pregnant, but charges were levied against her and subsequently ended with her conviction. Banner will learn her fate on February first.

If he slammed the door on her hand wouldn’t you think she would have gone to the KHMH for treatment instead of gpoing to visit uncle whoever in the central pen?
